The Pentagon has not said whether the Russians did leave, whether the Russians warned the Syrians or what they were doing in the first place. Trump seems to be hoping that he can form a coalition of all major NATO countries/Russia to overthrow Assad. This is why he talked about "civilized countries coming together". However, I would argue that NATO would not be too keen on Trump starting a new war and dragging NATO into it, when he's been critical about how much they pay into NATO, and has seemed to think it should be abolished... That should make them want to team up with him even more so that they can prove to him that NATO is useful and needs to stick around Trump's major complaint with NATO was that he felt that other countries weren't paying their fair share into the military, because the US had to be the "major defender" of the alliance. This criticism rings hollow when you now have Donald actively starting an attack on another nation, then imploring them to join in the fight. Precisely.
