"President Nintendo, we are glad to report that we completely sold out of the mini-nes consoles in a week!"
"Excellent. There is only one thing left to do."
"What is that?"
"Discontinue everything!"

Now that I think about it, I wonder if this is just a precursor to them releasing a Mini-NES classic SP or some garbage like that.

Nevermind that the switch is immensely popular and sells out.

You know... shit like this is exactly why I think it's morally ok to pirate old Nintendo shit. They're a scummy company.

The NES Classic itself was already overpriced at 60 bucks. Was it an *ok* deal? Sure but fuck... these are 30 year old games. Even a classic like Super Mario is realistically a 99 cent game in the year 2017.

It's clear why they did this: They want people to keep buying digitally on the Switch. Why have customers pay an average of $2 for a game like Super Mario when you can charge them $5 and not include any other games? Nintendo is such a shitty, anti-consumer company. They don't deserve any more than one fucking dollar for any of these old ass games. I grew up playing them too!

** Note to mods: I am not condoning piracy. Generally I am against piracy, however this is such a blatant consumer rip off that I cannot show any sympathy to Nintendo for missed sales due to piracy. I am not explaining how to pirate either. This message is NOT a ToS violation.**

The price was fine. It was part gaming and part collector's item. Pricing it lower would have been foolish.

I also wonder if this is a move to try and up sales on the eShop now that the Switch is out. It's sad that literally everyone here disbelieves Nintendo's official explanations.

One time Nintendo built a house.

They grabbed some plywood and started nailing it together. They didn't really know how to keep it on the ground so they decided to put a rock on top of it. Then one of the guys hit his thumb with a hammer. So they rushed him to the grocery store and asked for a paralegal. Despite being informed they needed a doctor at the hospital, Nintendo proceded to grab a floppy disk and rub it over his ankle. They were going to then return to building the house, but they couldn't find it. So they just discontinued the whole thing.

Sounds accurate

To me the price is off either way you look at it. If we're looking at worth, I still think 60 for 30 NES games is just too much. I think 20-30 would have been more reasonable if we're looking at consumer value.

If you're looking at the revenue side of it, they clearly undercharged. There are people out there willing to spend over 150 bucks for this thing on the second hand market. Now that it's discontinued that number will likely go up even higher (people are already asking 300 on ebay). Realistically they could have priced the thing at 100 and it still would have been flying off the shelf. I guess in the end 60 is just a weird price point IMO.

I mean they could also be like me where I pretty much scalp any limited Nintendo products because of how incompetent they can get when it comes to demand. I mean I bought a Shulk amiibo one time for $12.99 and manage to sell one on ebay for $80's! They tend to be very good investments, though it is to say I do lose out because not all limited edition items from Nintendo are big sellers. But that's the price to pay when going into the scalping market.

where's the troll? He's right....some idiot will pay bank for it especially if it becomes "rare" because its no longer in production...a $60 product that came out a few months ago is getting bids between 250 and 400 on ebay....and if there really isn't a chance of getting one brand new that's easily going to increase.

This, I'm not trolling when I say I do indeed scalp, though I'm not one of those hardcore ones that manage to get their hands on a shipment. I even admitted there were plenty of times when I made the wrong investments as well. However the scalping market is still perfectly legal and gets created when supply can't keep up with demand due to creating artificial demand or incompetency.
