We're union, and we operate out of a Union hiring hall so they can literally just call my business agent and ask for however many people they need and they will all be pretrained professionals who will have had 5 years minimum of schooling. It's why no union can't compete with us because normal companies can't afford to lay everyone off when a job is done because there's no guarantee they will be able to find trained replacements on the spot. That's why I'm always talking about working at different places because I can literally pick and choose when I want to work, what company I want to work for, and if I get sick of a job I can quit on the spot and my agent will find me another job within a week or two (if I want to work, I can also take a break and collect unemployment since the state isn't allowed to see when we turn down jobs at our hall). We have to know how all of these places work, like 2 dozen different styles of welding (if one of your welds fail an x-ray test you get fired so you better be really fucking good) and you must know tons of other shit like lots of algebra and trig stuff, making and reading architectual and mechanical blueprints, lots of engineering, etc etc. When I applied for the apprenticeship there were 1200 applicants and they only accepted 15 of us. It's not a job like a mine where any idiot off the street can come in and use a shovel. They're pretty picky about who they allow to work in a nuke. If you even get so much as a DUI outside of work they'll fire you even though we don't drive anything at work. If you're on any psych meds they usually won't let you work there either. There's a reason we have one of the longest apprenticeship programs in the country.
