(I would put Warriors of Destiny to finish out the Ultima NES games, but it is a bad port and the most expensive of the 3).

Those 3 games are great and I believe you can get the cartridges loose for under $10 if you look hard enough.

Iron Tank: The Invasion of Normandy is a well done shooter in the spirit of Ikari & Jackal but has branching paths which makes it quite unique among it's contemporaries.

Dragon Warrior III and IV are also very good, since you have the first two.

Double Dragon II was the best of the NES trilogy, so I'd add that one for sure.

Baseball Stars. I've never been much of a baseball fan but that game is amazing. Still play it on my phone.

What?!? There are plenty of co-op games. Chip 'N Dale. Bubble Bobble. Snake, Rattle, 'N Roll. Lifeforce. Contra. Mario Bros kinda. This is just off the top of my head.

So you have played, like, 12 NES games then?

I trusted Lokarin for a second because I thought he knew a lot about video games, and I couldn't think of anything co-op off the top of my head. But then mzsylver mentioned a bunch of games, and I felt like an idiot since I've already played some of those and knew they had co-op.

A very underrated puzzle game is Kickle Cubicle. https://www.gamefaqs.com/nes/563431-kickle-cubicle I really wish Irem was still around.

When I was a kid in the 1980's Dr. Chaos I remember that game scaring me.

But Monster Party didn't. (What's weird about this game I don't think it was ever released in Japan, like Startropics 1 or 2 were for the nes/faicom) Correct me if I'm wrong.

I have no idea how common or uncommon Air Fortress is nowadays. I really wish Nintendo would release more Virtual console games on 3ds and switch.

Definitely Bubble Bobble.

If you liked Dragon warrior I + II, you have yet to play the best games, III and IV. Most people like IV better; but I'm partial to III because you can make your own group.

Ultima: Quest of the Avatar is another game not on your list that was amazing on the NES. Quite long and difficult, though.

If you are into strategy games, the Koei games are great. I'd recommend Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

@Far-Queue - So far I've downloaded Faxanadu, and I've been enjoying it a lot. I played it almost exclusively yesterday. Here's my thoughts and progress so far...

One thing that I noticed right away is how great the graphics are for NES standards. Heck, the opening of the game has a fancy looking cutscene. I died almost right away when I started playing because I came across a jumping monster, and I tried punching it. I quickly found out that punching doesn't work, and I died, but I wasn't too upset because I didn't have anything to lose, and it gave me max health and magic.

After I met the king in the first town, I paid 200 Gold to the wizard who says he'll teach you magic....only to not find any new spells in my list. I later found out that you buy magic at tool shops, but they should have been more specific with that.

I'm currently at the Misty Cave area. I went through the optional castle, and found the Pendant (which I didn't get because I remember a friend of mine telling me that it actually makes you weaker), and that's where I left off at. I've only died the one time at the beginning of the game, but I have used two Elixirs as well. My current equipment, and ranking are...

Rank: Super Hero
Weapon: Long Sword (I also have the Hand Dagger)
Armor: Studded Mail (I also have the Leather Armor)
Shield: Magic Shield (I also have the Small Shield)
Magic: Death (I also have Deluge and Thunder)

In my items, I have 4 Red Potions, and a Jack Key.


Keep the suggestions coming, people! (If you have any more to add). A couple of them that I forgot about that I used to own and like are R.C. Pro AM 1 and 2, and Isolated Warrior.

Faxanadu is a fantastic game.

It was pretty fun back in the day but upon a semi-recent playthrough I forgot how finicky the jumping mechanics are. There's a spot not too far out from the first town where you have to jump across these 3 or 4 little platforms and you'll really notice it there.

Maybe a more interesting question - are there any splitscreen NES games? I wonder what the first splitscreen game was. The earliest one that I'm familiar with is Sonic 2, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's some more obscure game that did it first.
