Board 8 > Is Mass Effect's gameplay supposed to be fun?

Started the game today, the shooting mechanics seem meh-ish as of now. I have high hopes from the story however, someone please tell me that I'm not stupid to think so.

I specifically remember walking into every fight and my teammates dying in literally one second until I piled absolutely all of my upgrades into their defense stats. But it took me getting all of those up to like 95% filled up before they actually started to survive and pull their weight.

As someone who hates every single aspect of ME1 with a passion, I love ME2. The opening alone is the best thing ever if you hate ME1. Totally worth playing.

What did you think of ME3?

Got bored about 20% of the way through. Characters sucked ass, gameplay was okay but not fresh enough to keep interest at all. Not really bad though I guess. Just super sterile and safe.

That was the highlight of my ME1 experience outside of Wrex.

If you're thinking about playing the whole series, my advice for ME1 is to just speed through the main game, which can honestly be done in like 10 hours. The characters are boring in the first game and the side quests are almost entirely crap.

The main plot is probably the best part and there's a pivotal plot twist that you don't want to miss by skipping to ME2.

Then, if you fall in love with ME2, you can go back and see if it's worth it to give ME1 a more thorough playthrough.

I think 1's main story campaign is very solid, and it's so short. Side content can all be skipped if you don't fall in love with it.

Yeah I'll be playing the entire series, the only thing which kinda bugs me is that I know ME3's ending because when it released people just wouldn't stop talking about how the game ends.

Well the problem is your choices carry over to ME2 so you really need to actually play ME1

Or if you're on the PC there's a million ways to transfer your choices from ME1 to 2 without having to play 1.

this was actually the method suggested to me back when i played for the first time because ME1 was not available on PS3. which is why it came with that comic DLC that could at least get the major choices imported. you do miss out on some interactions but ME2 still became one of my favorite games without putting myself through the experience of ME1. i did go back and play it when it was made available on PS3 though. and of course the experience is different going back and playing vs. starting with ME1 so take that as you will.

i don't actually know about the availability of the comic DLC now though so maybe you do have no other option now than to play through ME1.

If you find the combat tedious already, I recommend being a soldier and sniping your way through- at least it will be fast and easy and require the least party/ability management
