18 y/o Savanna Tomlinson from Florida has become an internet sensation...and causing OUTRAGE at the same time after her yearbook quote went viral as she used it as humour to make a statement about racism!!

She said she wanted a quote to stand out and to entertain her peers as she wrote "Anything is possible when you sound Caucasian on the phone"

Thousands of people have liked and shared it and though widely praised, some said the teen's quote was "too divisive" and said she was fueling a RACE WAR

But Savanna says her quote is true after she saw a comedian on twitter who posted a photograph of himself holding up a plane ticket and said "This is AMERICA. Anything is possible if you sound white on the phone" after finding out he was flying for free after a long day of travel.

Savanna said "His caption was funny yet relevant and i decided to use it as my senior quote. When it came time to find a job or handle business, i caught myself using this so called "white" voice and found it how easy it was to get by in life sounding like this"

Her statement is about WHITE PRIVILEGE as it affected her and submitted it to the yearbook team and said she was ending her senior year with a BANG as 141,000 twitter users liked the pic as many said she was an ICON.

Her mother isn't happy with it though as Savanna said her mother was furious with that quote as she was confused with the quote

But some were unimpressed with one said "Do you see how this fuels this race war? Just wish it didn't have to always be white and black. We shouldn't be against each other"

Savanna is undeterred and said "I am fully aware that once something is posted online it is fair game for anyone to have their opinion and i'm okay with that. It's unfair some people are forced to present themselves in a certain light in order to have a good impression. Life is easier when you sound white on the phone and have a white name"

Researchers have found that "black" sounding names are likely to get a call back than someone whose name sounds "white" and a black woman with their natural hair styles experience bias in the workplace.

Savanna hopes to be a model some day as she heads off to college this fall.

Pretty much everyone in Great Britain doesn't speak professionally as London, Yorkshire, Welsh, Irish, Scottish, Geordie etc. accents pronounce most vowel sounds differently than American, and thus by your logic must sound uneducated and speaking like an idiot. Not to mention southern accents or New York accents or Boston accents or Cajun accents etc. etc.

People sound like their peers, there isn't a black voice box distinct to people of african decent. It is a combination of upbringing, location and environment, which could explain why a lot of black people have "black" voices.

So it doesnt directly affect it, but indirectly it does. I just dont think it would be hard for me to guess who was white and who was black if you blindfolded me and had ten strangers speak one after the other.

In more urban areas, "sounding white" is used as an insult by blacks, latinos, etc, against peers who sound more educated which is where kyuubi seems to be going with that.

Getting callbacks and getting hired is all about projecting yourself in a professional, eloquent and articulate manner; and includes pronouncing words correctly, speaking fluidly without grasping for words, speaking with a confident and assertive voice etc. It's got nothing to do with race.
