Is it because poor people actually get healthcare?

A lot of the people criticizing it are also the ones who say "America first." How can you have that mentality when you get upset over having to pay a little more. They never say why they hate it other than "it just sucks!" I'm beginning to think they don't hate the policy, they just hate the man behind the name...

Poor people don't always get insurance with Obamacare. Some republican states managed to screw over a group of lower income people who didn't qualify for aid but can't afford plans. Because republicans are basically cartoon villains.

I don't see the problem. Not having health insurance is ridiculously dumb.

These are the same people who think they're invincible and then when tragedy strikes, they're the ones making Gofundmes so they can pay off every month's medical bill

This is true of some people. There was a big rash of "Yay Obamacare is going away! Now they can fix the ACA!" With the repeal attempt the first time.

It was literally branded Obamacare in order to turn people against it. Even those that benefited greatly from it and will be hurt immensely from the repeal/"replacement".

I've even seen people claim Obama had such an Ego as to name it after himself... when he didn't. These are the people that vote.

Sorry, but that's money I can't afford to waste on the slim chance of mutilation and/or cancer

There are good things about it, such as being able to stay on your parents' insurance until 26 (much more realistic ever since college became the new standard to be marketable, no one can fucking move out at 18 and make it anywhere far) and it eliminates pre-existing conditions preventing people from getting insurance.

The way it rolled out was messy.

Nancy Pelosi's infamous "we have to pass it before we can know what" bullshit didn't help. They also lied that if people already had an insurance plan, they'd be able to keep it. Only partially true. Government intervention messed everything up; rates spiked for everyone, premiums skyrocketed, and has become such a catastrophe that some people are paying $2k+ a month for lower quality insurance. I would be in this boat myself it wasn't for the fact that I'm 24 and my dad still keeps me on his plan, because I work for a company with pretty decent pay-- but pretty shitty insurance plans.

I've worked out how much money I would have to pay if my wife AND future kids were on my own work plan-- on top of student loans, rent, utilities, groceries, ultra cheap cell phone plans, my wife's student loans, and our inexpensive internet bill-- even if I spent NO money on myself, we would come out OWEING money to the federal government.

So while I am going to be pegged as a horrible, despicable person for attacking an insurance policy (aka the "ACA" LOL nothing affordable about it) that keeps people insured, it just isn't a viable option. My opinion. I'm not spewing bullshit without acknowledging that in general I don't know much about this stuff. I don't. But this is how it has affected my life. I'm scared to have kids because of the situation we're all in.

By the way, I have a degree in computer science/IT. I didn't pick a useless degree and ended up working outside my field for less. This "affordable care act" is anything except affordable for most people. And I'm GLAD it DOES help people. I'm not heartless. I'd also like to get ahead in life and not play into this bullshit we call socialism.

Trumpcare is a steaming pile of dogshit too. I've had it with our fucked up government. What I think needs to happen is that we kill ALL/most government regulations on existing health care laws, let capitalism (NOT crony capitalism where the rich win, but healthy competition) seep back into the free market so private healthcare costs can fall dramatically like they were affordable back in the 90's, and we find SOME way to eliminate pre-existing conditions being a barrier.

Perhaps I know nothing about healthcare and this would never work, but I know that Obamacare and Trumpcare need to go. I'm sorry if this sounds offensive to people who rely on Obamacare, but it's the truth. As the saying goes, we need to teach people how to fish instead of giving them fish. We can figure something out for the people who are too sick to fish, but Obamacare isn't the solution.

Because they let states opt out so states that are politically opposed to it aren't funding it properly. I support the law, I would be hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt if it hadn't past when it did, but it's naive to not admit it has significant flaws that need to be addressed.

It's not "bad", it's just not good enough. It focuses on coverage but neglected cost control. If American politics weren't so damn partisan there could have been something that combined the best parts of Obama's and Romney's plans. Instead, we spent years either worshipping or trying to destroy Obamacare, and now we have wrecking ball Trump in office with all the extended powers he inherited from Obama. Good job, USA.

They should have just improved the aca instead of trying to make a point by taking out anything with Obama's name linked to it. Having to start from scratch takes too long to do well.

Yeah when the supreme court shot down the federal mandate for medicaid expansion blood red states just opted out of medicaid expansion leaving lots of poor people unable to afford health insurance.

why aren't you blaming your insurance provider (which made changes to your plan to make more money) instead of ACA (trying to get more people covered)

Because it is the impetus of a business to try to make money. All the ACA did was give them license to jack up their prices by forcing people into buying their shit. The insurance companies are only able to get away with their shitty behavior because our crooked ass government gives them the tools to do so under the easily sold guise of helping the poor.

This is why tax funded single payer is the only logical option. The trouble is finding out what the role of the insurance companies would be in that environment.

Providing coverage for things that aren't covered by the tax-funded single payer coverage, e.g. dental, emergency care when traveling to another country, specialists, or prescription drugs and/or eyewear.

At least that's how it works here in Ontario.
