This week we were joined by super-guest KP and I thought it resulted in the funnest Show of the year. Things ran a little longer than I expected because of frequent trips down memory lane, but they were so enjoyable that I'm sure any Contest veteran will really appreciate them. Eventually we got down to serious business, such as

The oracle has definitely been very weird this year. I've had some picks where I only got 20 points.

Hoping the guru, whoever they are, picks a good character. Maybe a pokemon that's never been nominated but is still really popular, like Gengar or Alakazam.

the Samus and Mario stuff was before my time. My first real memory of contests was Character Battle 8.

I agree with yo, I think the consoles should definitely be in the pictures. I don't think a picture change would've changed up the result of today's match though.

It's a pretty close match, so it's hard to say. I know a lot of people picked 1991 thinking consoles wouldn't be completely ignored, so I can understand why some people would be miffed by that.

Yea Allen's choices for match pics are strange. I remember in 2015 for BGE the match pic for Chrono Cross in Round 3 was the exact same image as the box art. I made a really cool image of Kid looking into the horizon where the sky and sea meet, with a translucent Frozen Flame being superimposed into it, and it got rejected.

Oh god that Vincent picture was horrible. paulg should be ashamed of himself.

The only reason why I wouldn't say 95's pic was the worst ever is because, as bad as it was, it still won its match. The Vincent picture screwed him over, and the lack of GSC and Diablo II in the 2000 pic screwed it over too.

for the record the 2005 X-Stats predict Snake to double Frog

Frog got 48% in 2004

Now there's a good chance 2005 Snake is a good bit stronger than 2004 Snake, but still. I think 2004 Snake got hampered a bit because CJayC used Naked Snake pics for him in most of his matches and everyone knew that wasn't Solid Snake.

It appears Yoblazer underestimated 90s Nintendo nostalgia. I'd argue that SNES to GameCube era Nintendo and post-Gamecube Nintendo are very different from each other, with the latter really not being that strong.

I was really pissed off about that 2000 and 96 match. Allen really messed up here.

In fact, when it comes to the 2000 match pic Allen's a hypocrite. For his pic, we got two N64 games, a PC game, and a PSX game. Two of the games are FPS's. Replace Perfect Dark with GSC and the picture becomes more diverse because there's a handheld game in there, despite the fact that two of the games are RPG's.

I won the oracle for 91 > 2002. I figured after round 1 that the SNES years weren't quite as strong as we'd thought they'd be.

I think 92 could've done better with a different placement. It didn't deserve to get SFF'd into oblivion by 98.

I picked 2005 for my bracket but after looking at the match pics I figured 2013 would be stronger than 2015, so I went with 2003 for the oracle.

Also I think this is the first time X-2 has been in any type of poll since 04 game of the year, where it did worse than wind waker but beat KotOR

I agree with Ngamer, I feel like in matches where there are two years right next to each other (97 and 96, 08 and 09), there's gonna be some SFF.

I still think 01 can beat 97. the one-two punch of Melee and FFX along with all the other great games from that year can put it on top in my mind.

I disagree with KP. The only reason why it looks like 01 doesn't have an anchor is because Melee and FFX are both around the same strength. That said, the fact that it has two anchor games that cover two different fanbases is something that really benefits 01 in my opinion. Also 97 might get some backlash from Nintendo fans because it's anchored by FF7, which is a big target for anti-voting. I trust Melee more than FF7 despite the fact that Melee's the weaker game.
