- It was in the show, but hardly did anything
- It was in smash bros, but also did nothing
- It's a mediocre mono-water type in a sea of other mediocre water types
- You can find it naturally in, what, only half the Pokémon games?
- No signature moves. Subpar stats. Shitty design and sprites, especially in the early gens.
- The doujins where it turns into a human to fuck Misty/Red/Bruno are really bad

It might've gotten more popular due to how forgotten it used to be though.
I mean, I sure haven't thought much about it since the Gold & Silver days.
Some people started to point out how forgettable it was and now more people are aware of it's forgettableness which makes it less forgettable I guess.

I dunno, I'm just rambling at this point.

I've always found, of the Gen 1 Pokemon, that Golem was forgettable.

There are no trainers that have him and the only way to get him is by trade. Most people never even got to see a Golem in the original games.

I think I'll second Golem. At least Goldeen is recognizable because of how much it sucks. Golem just doesn't have very many appearances at all (which is a bit of a shame since I like him thousands of times more than Graveler)

It was a pretty dumb meme though.

He had several prominent anime appearances early on and he was next to Rhydon as a staple on Pokemon teams. If you played with people IRL, you knew Golem. Plus I'm pretty sure a few trainers had one.

Dunsparce is memorable for being the worst Pokemon ever designed (since at least Magikarp evolves) and a running joke. True forgettable is Tangela, who sees almost no use and is usually only found by accident since it's inconveniently placed.

Pokemon are like breasts - designed for children, but readily and routinely enjoyed by adults the world over.

Back in the old days of the TCG you had to have him to get Seaking, Seaking was pretty decent back then.

I don't think so, he/Dewgong were good alternatives if you got tired of using Lapras

Plus he was a KFC plush. They don't just select any old Pokemon for that. He's there alongside the likes of Dratini, Vulpix, and... Zubat.

I was mainly talking about the non-competitive crowd. I'm sure competitive/hardcore fans won't have any issues remembering Pokemon, especially from gen 1.

Tangela is definitely up there on the forgettable list.

Not just competitive, anybody with friends would often have at least one person among them using it. Thanks to its relatively early anime appearance, it was one of my big wants when I got the game.

Goldeen was one of Misty's best Pokemon in the anime for a while, so I wouldn't agree on that.

One of the most forgettable Pokemon is Quilfish. Weak. Nothing unique about it. Nothing notable either. Doesn't evolve. Somewhat rare.

If you're talking exclusively 1st generation, I'd probably agree on Tangela. But Tangela has been somewhat notable since it received it's evolution.

lol it's ironically the other way around. Golem is the only Pokemon besides the final evo of one of the starters, I forget which, I think Blastoise if you chose Bulbasaur?, that no trainers in 1st gen had and you would never see without getting it yourself.
He was great competitively though.
