I don't understand how that negates anything

I asked that poster if he read the actual agreement (if he said no, I was going to post the language)

ICOYAR is posting some third-party opinion vlogs...how is that the same? everyone and their grandma knows about ICOYAR by now, and rarely anyone takes him seriously.

heres the deal

"I'm not going to read your sources"

and then a few posts later

"Did you even read my sources?"

its not like im jumping over some huge fucking chasm of logic here

My source was literally going to be the language of the agreement, straight from how it's written...it wasn't going to be a video of me reading it out loud and adding my opinion on it >_> Those are different standards of reference entirely. Nuance exists, yo.

As a religious moderate who believes in climate change, surrounded by religious conservatives who do not, this makes me sad.

Too bad everything has been so badly tainted on that front, that there are so many skeptics. All the misinformation purposefully printed to mislead. Corrupt politicians hoping on board the climate change movement for a quick buck and/or vote, making it easier for the anti crowd to cast more doubts. And the earlier boiling down of the whole issue to simple "Global Warming".

When I tell those around me that deforestation, urbanization, abnormal migratory patterns, over hunting, over fishing, and air, water, and ground pollution are all forms of Climate Change, I get blank stares followed by more talking points.

And honestly, the religious part might be more the problem than simple conservatism. Many of the arguments I hear are things such as: "humans can't effect the planet, only God can", or "even if global warming is real, its just part of Gods plan", or "the rapture is going to happen before it becomes and issue, so why care".

nobody thinks icoyar is smart, but this sort of automatic discounting and demonization shit is the exact story of how trump wins again in 2020.

if youve got a problem with him, fucking ignore him or just scream about it into one of your echo chambers. trying to tear the other side down does not make your side stronger, it makes both sides collectively weaker.

This is getting a bit off topic but does his job description say "combat climate change?" I don't think it does. He is a representative of the district that elected him and the moment he stops representing their interests, he'll not be doing his job and will be removed. That's how the system works. You're arguing that we take representation out of politics because it doesn't fit your prerogative. The whole system collapses if you do that. I'm having intense flashbacks to November when it was all "California and New York are the majority they should control everything."

For perspective there are 435 House seats; Michigan has 9 of those, and this dude is 1. This is one half of Congress, which is one body of the US Government, which is only one (admittedly big) country in the global environment that has a hand in climate change. Tell me how forcing this one guy out of office is going to make an impact on climate change. And anticipating your response I'm expecting something like "not just him but everyone like him" and then you're just advocating for a totalitarian government, but it's ok because it's for a totally progressive agenda and stuff. Or whatever. Now I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, so feel free to correct me, but it feels pretty clear that's the direction this is going.

Now you could pull a @Zangulus and say I hit my head for "defending" this guy but that's not really what I'm doing. I'm defending the legislative process sure, but that's also not really my point. My point is he's not really able to hurt anything in his position but more importantly you're not helping anything. In fact, you could have more influence than he does if you really wanted to. The year is 2017, one person, no matter how unremarkable they are at the start, has the ability to influence millions of people these days. Instead people in this thread are content to sit back and point fingers at Trump, at Walberg, and assign blame and whatnot, but for this being such a passionate issue for some of you there's not much being done in here besides putting the echo chamber to good use.

A study in 2008 from the University of Central Florida analyzed the sources of "environmentally skeptical" literature published in the United States. The analysis showed that 92% of the literature was partly or wholly affiliated with a self-proclaimed conservative think tank.

A study from 2015 identified 4,556 individuals with overlapping network ties to 164 organizations which are responsible for the most efforts to downplay the threat of climate change in the U.S

To be fair, the only way you're going to get government funding is if you claim it exists so they'd need alternate funding if they were claiming anything to the contrary.

Climate change could affect EVERYONE, every last person in his district, but even "if there's a real problem" he proudly states he won't do anything about it. Doesn't sound like he's very concerned with representing their interests if you ask me.

And again, he'll only be removed if people aren't idiots which they are, so they'll only remove him once it's a SERIOUS problem that's already wrecking their shit, instead of dealing with it when it was still solvable

And you laughed at me for trying to conserve water

I called it gross to leave piss in a public toilet for the next person to deal with (and that seems to be the consensus)

It would also be gross to conserve water by not washing your hands

or you just don't piss on your hands.....
no need to wash then

Who is talking about when pissing, I just mean forgoing hand washing is gross. as is holding off on toilet flushing

Supposedly the US ommitions are to early 1990's levels.

The emissions have dropped from what can be seen but they are rising again. Important factors in that drop include the decreasing use of coal and petroleum. Doing things like ramping up coal production and use for energy will set the US up for higher emissions rates over time.

Canada follows very similar curves for emissions per capita and continues to move away from coal and towards renewable energy. Time will show that difference.

https://www.eia.gov/coal/annual/

CO2 emissions from the electric power sector fell by 4.9% in 2016. A significant reduction in coal use for electricity generation was offset by increased generation from natural gas and renewable sources. Renewables do not emit CO2, and a shift towards natural gas from coal lowers CO2 because natural gas has lower emissions per unit of energy than coal and because natural gas generators typically use less energy than coal plants to generate each kilowatthour of electricity. Overall, the data indicate about a 5% decline in the carbon intensity of the power sector, a rate that was also realized in 2015. Since 1973, no two consecutive years have seen a decline of this magnitude, and only one other year (2009) has seen a similar decline.
