I don't think a comparison to Game of Thrones is apt. Every major character that dies in Game of Thrones dies due to their own actions as part of a bigger story - Attack on Titan just kills characters off because it can, even if it doesn't service anything.

AoT is closer to The Walking Dead. It'll kill people off whenever it wants because it's poorly structured. The difference is that 50% of the time TWD will have some decent amount of development for the characters it kills off - AoT never really has any, it's just death without any reason to care about anybody. It's a weird hallmark of a lot of recent-ish anime where they think that grimdark edge = good drama even though it's just immature edgy shit.

Iunno which main arc characters youre talking about aside from erwin and a bunch of recruits that are filler fodder. Most of the main cast is still currently alive. It's a really, really dark world with a lot of manipulation though.

That's true for Eren but, he gets a ton of development later and so do everyone else. The anime literally will end on a giant cliff hanger.

people are all raving about how great the animation is but like 80% of it is just panning over a still image
the dialogue is bad and forced (though this might just be a shitty translation job) and aesthetically it's like 80% glottal stops (this definitely isn't from translating because I watched the subbed version)
there are all sorts of lines which imply characters have specific knowledge that they don't

it's just generally badly done
