It's placebo, not melatonin.

there's nothing wrong with it. it's a naturally occurring hormone your body produces. it's not really addictive, you won't become dependent off of it. I was taking it every night for about a month and then stopped when I ran out and had no problems.

Do you also think that there are no potential negative consequences to taking testosterone supplements? I mean testosterone is also a natural hormone that the body produces

lmao find me a study on melatonin saying it's detrimental. please. melatonin and testosterone are not anywhere near the same in terms of toxicity.

It's a recommended supplement for anyone thar needs to work on their circadian rhythm or deal with jet lag. You're not supposed to take it every day forever. Even if you do use it for weeks at a time it's fine. Once in a while it's very useful to get to bed and sleep more easily.

One issue is that most supplements provide much more melatonin than you need or should be taking and it can have a negative impact on your sleep. You should only be taking around 1mg and most supplements range from 3 - 10mg.

It is worth noting that in other countries melatonin requires a prescription (but it's also not the only supplement like this)

1.5 is fine and that's what I typically take on the occasion that I need to. It's very helpful for adjusting to a different sleep schedule.

But it's a safe supplement when used appropriately. If you don't then the worst you're dealing with is discomfort from being tired, or temporarily increased sleep issues of you use too much for too long. That's after months of use every day. There's no life threatening side effects or even serious negative health impacts from melatonin use. Unlike many, many hormones. And definitely unlike sleeping medication where you can have organ failure or death from taking too much even one time.

*shudder*

;.;

A doctor put me on this same stuff, for some unexplained reason. *sad sigh*

Gave me nausea. And nightmares.

I quit taking it -- and have been fine since then. (Rather, the increased incidence of nausea and nightmares went away, at least.)

Melatonin had a strange effect on me. It was like my subconscious was so eager to start dreaming that my thoughts became surreal. And then my conscious mind would repeatedly jolt me awake as if to say that's not right.

There's plenty wrong with using a drug like melatonin too much or too often. Any and all cells that are affected by the hormone begin to down regulate (decrease cell receptors for the hormone) once the cells recognize there is too much of a certain stimulus. Your body also starts naturally producing less of a certain hormone once it senses a homeostatic imbalance. Melatonin supplements are typically also released into the blood immediately, as opposed to over a longer period of time.

It's strange though, there haven't been too many studies on the drug's resistance. It seems like the supplement industry has some damn good lobbyists and a presence in academia.

yes it is, which is why so many people have so many different "reactions" to it.

Placebo is incredibly strong and that is a proven fact medically.
