80/80

Lady said her doctors told her things don't look good.

She said her daughter's student loan debt was another thing added on making things hard for the family.

But she literally asked for my help and said in a month if she doesn't make it, her daughter would inherit a lot of life insurance and if it would help.

Are student loans THIS serious? Like, I stopped when I sensed I wasn't sure to stop ridiculous loan debt. Why do people take so much without any realistic plans to pay them back?

Why are SCHOOL loans not taught in SCHOOL??

What is taught in school is that where you go to college is one of the most important defining aspects of your life and therefore you better take out huge debt to go to the "best" place you can go (not that this is actually true, but this is the message many young people are having pumped into their brains every day)

Also I am curious about what kinds of loans her daughter has. Maybe the mom took out loans in her own name for her daughter? They have something called the PLUS loan where the parent borrows the money instead of the child.

Plus loans would still have the debt revert to the child if the parent dies.

Anything involving how to manage is not taught in schools at all.

Also Student Loans are really bad. They are too easy to get due to the fact you have to pay them off and bankruptcy won't clear your student loan debt. A lot of Student Loans also have pretty high interest rates. Plus it's much harder to get a good paying job right now for people exiting college so it's a lot harder for them to pay it off.

I work for a loan servicer, so she was calling in to see how she could help her daughter with options and stuff.

Tbh, she sounded weird. She'd say how her daughter had a child but wasn't married so don't "judge her". And how her family were proud people but really needed help. I just reckon they were religious.

I didn't really pay too much attention to the amount of loans, and even if I did, npi, but still. It was making me sad that someone can actually think them dying would help their child.
