Hello and welcome to this here poll where I would like to get an idea of just which Mega Man game is preferred the most.

I will be using this topic as a HUB to resolve a couple other comparisons as well.

The huge drop in difficulty after 3 was 1 reason. Also 2 and 3 have two of the best soundtracks in the original series. They're my personal #1 and #2 soundtrack of the original series.

Ah I see. I never really went into this series thinking it was the difficulty that made the classics work so well.

I wouldn't necessarily say that the first 3 games are difficult, it's more just that the mega buster made the series much easier starting with MM4.

I don't actually have much experience with the classic series. I haven't played one for longer than ten minutes! I'm more familiar with X and Zero, actually. I'll amend this someday.

I love Mega Man 5 but it has got to be the easiest.

Interesting, I found 5 to be one of the toughest. I'd say 9 was the hardest though.

I personally never got why so many people go 2>3. 3 is bigger and even has half of 2's stuff in it.. and my favorite soundtrack by far.

3 was ambitious and has Snake Man too, but it's got a lot of design flaws.

I don't remember what boss you're referring to. All I know is I consider myself an above average Mega Man player and have little difficulty with most of the other games, but found MM5 pretty challenging.

Ok, that boss is a joke. But I have a vague recollection of the boss on the first Proto Man stage taking off a ton of life whenever he hits you and being a pain. Granted, it's been awhile since I've played that game and don't know it as well as the others.

4 followed by 9. 2 and 3 are incredibly overrated (though still good)

4 has the best soundtrack definitely. So many fantastic tracks <3

Didn't play the rest until like 2002 when I learned what emulation is
I have hard time voting for anything else even when I know it isn't as good as the rest

I think the last Proto Man boss is kind of tough. I mostly avoid using Beat too. I do think 5 is harder than 6 and maybe 8 (haven't played 8 in a long time). The easiest part of the whole series is Wily's Castle from 3.

4 or 6 are the easiest. 4's mega buster is pretty laughable, and 6 has the rocket pack which breaks most levels' hazards.

Nah, the soundtrack is incredibly important in these games. I do think it's a big part of why 2, 3, and 9 are at the top for many people.

those are also ones without the mega buster. Its pretty much accepted that the mega buster was a bad addition to the gameplay, even though i think the addition gets way too much hate and only was a minor problem at worst.

Difficulty obviously matters, but soundtrack also plays a large role. Like I said in the other topic, 2, 3 and 9 are usually at the top partly due to the soundtracks.

Mega Man 4. Even though the music and color palette are a bit dull the game has phenomenal stage design. In particular, I believe this is the only game in the series that has truly exceptional post-Robot Master stages. Further, it has very balanced weapons useful for a ton of different situations unlike say... Mega Man 2 where the Metal Blade is the end all. Super underrated game.
