- no stupid story or voice acting to worry about (most of the time)
- bomb ass music and visuals
- incredibly fun score based gameplay
- one of the best genres to push yourself skillwise and immediately able to tell when you're learning
- niche market so the games are generally dirt cheap (outside of a few examples like DARIUSBURST) and have insane replay value

I only play Touhous and I'm really bad at them. Though I did a lot better in the earlier Touhous when trying them on my Hitbox and managed a 1cc in PCB with Sakuya

I played a decent amount of touhou a few years back but in general I stopped liking the games because of how limited feeling they are. Not that this is a bad thing (or even something avoidable for the genre at all) but I feel like it's a large part why my interest sort of faded out

Only 1CC for me was Imperishable Night, plus i beat the Extra :>

but ultimately the genre is very... straightforward. You move at a fixed speed (maybe you have a slow and a fast speed) in any direction you want and you dodge stuff. that's like, the majority of the gameplay of most of them, or at least all the ones I've tried

Pretty much this. I played a few of the Touhou games, plus Triggerheart Exelica on the Xbox 360, but I just wasn't very good at them. I couldn't even clear them on normal difficulty without using 2-3 continues. I still had fun playing them though, and if I see another good looking bullet hell game get released for XB1 or Switch, I might try again at some point. Steam isn't an option because my computer is 100% complete and total shit for gaming.

Go look into Guardic and Guardian Legend.
They're both pretty old, but aged reasonably well.

On topic...or maybe off topic...

It may be the longest running genera I've ever continued to play.
I love the pick up and play arcade type game play.
The modern games may seem simple at first, but usually, once you sink your teeth into them you find they can be really deep. As in, you play a game for a bit and think, Oh this is nice....then you realise how the game is really played!!
The music.
The fact that a game might seem random and hectic is actually controlled, once you see you top scores are all in the same ball park.
For Bullet hell games, The on screen eye candy.

Those are some reasons I do play!!
