31. Static Shock

Favorite character: Richie

Seen: All of it, twice

Static is one of the first superheroes I can remember being a huge fan of. Not so much from the comics; I just loved the show. It was pretty progressive for its time too. A black titular superhero in a kids show like nearly 20 years ago? A gay best friend superhero (ok, he wasn't allowed to be called gay in the show because the times weren't THAT progressive, but he still was in canon!) It tackled everything from the importance of black idols and to Richie's abusive father, and on top of that, threw in a bunch of great villains, with Ebon leading them all as a legitimately terrifying presence. I went back and rewatched it a couple years ago, and it absolutely held up, and to this day, I still consider Static one of my all-time favorite superheroes because of it.

I only watched one episode of Louie. I didn't laugh much, same as 1x01 of Master of None.

Westworld feels obscenely too high.

CXG is probably the first high-ranking show that I feel deserves to be this high! It's a romantic comedy by definition, but it's extremely subversive and dwells a lot on mental illness rather than solely celebrating the titular protagonist's crazy antics.

I'm always surprised when I see people say that they didn't like Jessica Jones because as far as I'm concerned it's the best Marvel Netflix show. I think the energy between Jessica and Kilgrave is so real, and I also enjoy Jessica's supporting cast (especially Trish) way more than any of the other Marvel supporting casts.

30. American Horror Story

Seen: First five seasons, a few episodes of 6

Favorite characters:
Murder House: Hayden
Asylum: Sister Mary Eunice
Coven: Misty Day
Freak Show: Dandy Mott
Hotel: James March

Man, I still remember when this show first came out, I was unbelievably hyped. There wasn't a whole ton of real, solid horror on television (at least not that I knew of) so to see FX (which has always been one of my favorite stations) was releasing one made by Ryan Murphy (who also made Glee, Nip/Tuck and Scream Queens, all on my list) I was understandably excited. The first season of the show was one of the things that helped me fall in love with Kate Mara. I was so impressed with season 1 that I immediately got a close friend of mine to watch it too, and they were just as excited about it as I was (in fact, that's why I haven't finished the first season; we've been watching together since the beginning so I haven't watched the most recent without them). The show had it's rises and falls. The first two seasons were excellent, third was pretty weak, fourth and fifth had issues but did some excellent things (Dandy is quite possibly my favorite villain of the entire series). It's gone from being one of the only horror shows to being almost a sort of phenomenon; a mini-series that keeps coming back in surprising and fun ways.

29. House

Seen: Probably around 6.5/8 seasons

Favorite character: Dr. House

House was one of the very first shows that transitioned me into serious shows (it essentially went kids shows -> sitcoms -> dramas as I grew up, with some overlap of course). For a while, one of the most exciting parts of my week was seeing what new medical mystery House would solve. I found the show intectually exciting, which was a fairly new feeling at the time. Really what sold the show was House himself, played by Hugh Laurie in what was easily one of the best and most consistent performances ever on television. Dr. House was the mad genius, the tragic hero, everything I wanted from the show. Fortunately the supporting cast was solid too, with Wilson, 13 and Kutner all being great. I did eventually stop watching, as the show got a little too repetitive in the last seasons, but it will forever remain as one of the most important shows in regards to my personal development.

I think the problem with House is it was not repetitive enough tbqh.

Like to me it dropped off pretty hard in Season 5 which is when they diverged from the formula of "random ailment of the week"->"house solves, usually due to inspiration from some other random thing." I think I could've watched Season 1-4 House forever.

Felt like the low point was Season 5, it gradually got better from that point, and it was allowed to end with dignity due to recovering enough.

28. One-Punch Man

Seen: The one season

Favorite character: Saitama

ONE PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNCH! There's so much to love here. It satifies my desires for funny anime and superhero power trips simultaneously. The show throws massive threat after massive threat at Saitama, the strongest person alive (that we know of) and the fun of the show comes from knowing that Saitama WILL defeat them, but you never know how. The shows almost more about Genos than the titular hero, as Genos is the one that typically gets put head to head with the major threat, ALMOST beats it but hits his limit, only for Saitama to gradually stroll in and ONE PUUUUUUUUNCH. It's just thrilling and funny in a way very few shows are, and I've been impatiently waiting for season 2, which I can only assume will continue the thrill.

OPM Merch I own:

(own of my favorite things to do is to throw that Saitama ball at my roommate while yelling ONE PUNCH when they're caught off guard)

House is hilarious for House himself, but honestly I was bored of the format by the end of episode 1. My least favorite seasons are the earlier ones, honestly.

27. Jackie Chan Adventures

Seen: All of it (the first 2 seasons twice)

Favorite character: Tohru

Jackiiiiiiiiiiiiiie! This is one of the handful of early 2000s animated shows that were just impossible not to love. Fun fact: Jackie Chan was NOT voiced by Jackie Chan. He was actually voiced by Uncharted's Eddy Raja! But Chan himself always showed up at the end, which made up for it. The show basically followed a strict formula: Uncle sends Jackie on a ridiculous quest (usually for a talisman), Jackie tells Jade to stay home, Jade says FUCK THAT, and then Jade saves Jackie or vice versa. Simple, but it never really got old. In the first season, much of the fun came from seeing what each talisman would do and how it would be utilized. Later seasons followed the formula with different items (demon portals, oni masks, etc.) but the first season will always be the best looking back. The big plus from later seasons was the reformed Tohru, who quickly became my favorite among an excellent main cast (Jackie, Jade and Uncle are all consistently fun and lovable). The show left such an impression that even years and years after seeing it, I can still remember Uncle's chant word for word.

26. Attack on Titan

Seen: Season 1

Favorite character: Mikasa

POPs owned: Titan Eren and Colossal Titan

Attack on Titan is weird. It's almost hard to take seriously. The show kind of jumps back and forth between serious and goofy with little to no warning. Eren is so ecentric about killing titans that it's a little ridiculous, but it's presented in a dramatic fashion. Then you have things like Sasha dramatically eating a potato in the middle of a serious situation. And THEN there's the titans, who are somehow both hilarious to watch and horrifying. The show doesn't hesitate to suddenly and violently kill off characters, often when the viewer is least prepared for it. But with all this, somehow everything just works for me. The humor and the horror and the action all land just right for me, making it one of my favorite anime (not that there are a ton to choose from) and one of the most effective animated action series I've seen. Fun fact: I met the voice actors for Levi, Mikasa and Annie at Zenkaikon last year!

25. The League

Seen: All of it

Favorite character: Andre

Everyone who's played Fantasy Football with a group of friends knows the feeling here. The sensation of defeating your close buds in last minute overtime is exhilirating, and the feeling of seeing EVERY GODDAMN PLAYER GET INJURED IN THE SAME WEEK is slightly frustrating. And holy shit does The League capture that sensation tenfold. Fortunately, you don't even really need to be a fan of Fantasy Football to enjoy it (though it helps) because it's just really damn funny. I was already a fan of Jon Lajoie, Nick Kroll and Paul Scheer before even watching the show, so seeing them all come together along with some other funny people just made for what I feel safe calling FX's best comedy. And my absolute favorite scene, of course:

i never watched any episodes of JCA consistently so i couldn't follow the arcs, but i loved season 1. the later seasons got a little too weird when they were overly supernatural, but i saw even fewer of those episodes. would love to go through it.

never seen league or AoT, but definitely will watch the latter at some point - probably when it has more seasons and more source material.

24. Mr. Robot

Seen: Both seasons

Favorite character: Elliot

The secret organization is /fsociety, of course (sorry, never managed to make it through a full season of Agents of SHIELD). Mr. Robot surprised me MOSTLY because of where it came from. USA isn't really known for it's incredible shows, at least not shows that rival the quality of networks like HBO and FX. But Mr. Robot is a shocking exception to that. Rami Malek was another surprise. All I had known him from was Until Dawn (which he was perhaps the best part of) and his silly role in Night at the Museum, so I had no idea exactly how impressive he could be as a lead. The result is: really goddamn impressive. His portrayal of Elliot rivals some of TV's best leading men, portraying mental disorder in a way that's rare for cable TV, and doing so in a way that provides us with an unreliable narrator that really helps make the show even more intriguing. Excellently shot, disturbingly dark and overall enthralling.

23. Heroes

Seen: All 4 seasons

Favorite character: Sylar

Yeah, maybe this is too high, but I have a confession to make. I liked Heroes. Like, ALL of Heroes. Even the seasons nobody else liked. See, when I started watching the show, I joined in late. As in, I started at the beginning of the third season, after hearing it was a good show. Season 3 came out in 2008, when I was 15. Now, to set the stage, this is around the same time I was really into House. My tastes in television weren't SUPER refined just yet, but I knew that I liked Heroes as soon as I watched it, and even at it's weakest, I loved it. It would be something I looked forward to every week after school, and I was super disappointed when it was cancelled. I few years later, after my tastes had changed, I went back and watched the first two seasons on Netflix, and similarly loved them. Sylar was hands down one of TV's best villains, and Hiro's antics were always a ton of fun. I never did go back and rewatch the later seasons, and I don't know that I particularly want to, but as of right now, the whole series is positive in my mind.

22. Arrested Development

Seen: First 3 seasons, about half of the 4th

Favorite character: Tobias probably

Favorite recurring joke: Charlie Brown sad walk

Snake called it. I never watched Arrested Development until Netflix. Even then, I watched like 3 episodes, and wasn't particularly into it, considering it pretty overrated (possibly because everyone talked about it with an air of "if you don't consider Arrested Development the funniest show ever made then you're a fucking idiot"). A few years later I went back to give it another chance. I don't know exactly what changed for me, but something just suddenly clicked. Arrested Development was one of the funniest shows I had ever watched. The meta humor, the recurring jokes, the puns, the spot-on comedic timing of the narrator; everything seemed so meticulously laid out and it all just worked. George Michael's awkward incestuous crush, Tobias' obliviousness, the evolution of the chicken dance. Everyone here was at the top of their game. Now, when Netflix tried to bring it back for a fourth season, it didn't quite work. Some of the humor was there, but splitting everyone up kind of killed what made the show work so well, and overall it just wasn't the same.

21. South Park

Seen: All of it I'm pretty sure

Favorite character: Satan

I know South Park has some detractors, and some of it is warranted. The show can be pretty immature, though really, if you're against immature humor then you probably stray away from shows like this to begin with. I've never been a fan of characters like Towlie or Mr. Hanky as they go a little too far into the dumb grossout humor for me. Instead, the show is at its best when its parodying pop culture or current events. It's got a huge cast of funny characters, who yes, are strictly tropes (hell, the token black character is literally named Token) but it serves a purpose here. The writing is more often than not really funny, and they've covered about as many subjects as The Simpsons (as well as plenty The Simpsons isn't willing to touch). Matt and Trey are just funny guys, simple as that. This show also gave one of the funniest games I've ever played, and one of my most aniticipated upcoming.

20. Raising Hope

Seen: All four seasons, twice

Favorite character: Sabrina probably? But any of the main cast, really.

So, remember My Name Is Earl? Well after that got cancelled, the creator came back to give us a new quirky sitcom. And as much as I loved MNIE, the new show was just better. It is hands down one of the most lovable shows I've seen. Every main character just strikes me as someone I'd like to meet, and it's downright infectious. Jimmy and Sabrina are one of the most shippable couples I've ever seen on TV, Burt and Victoria are quite possibly the best pair of TV parents, and Hope is just downright adorable. The characters are flawed. Like, REALLY flawed. The main protagonist is kind of an idiot. In fact, most of the main characters aren't particularly smart, or good at what they do. But they're absolutely still the ideal family when it comes to how they work together and help each other. They even got in a My Name Is Earl reunion! But like My Name Is Earl, it too was cancelled after its fourth season. Still, all four seasons are on Netflix, and it's absolutely a must watch.

Raising Hope is hilarious. Kind of a bummer that there were only 4 seasons.

19. Scrubs

Seen: All of it

Favorite character: Perry Cox

Scrubs was easily one of my favorite shows when I was younger. As in, once I got started (My Butterfly was the first I saw), I was hooked. I would look through the newspaper TV Guide to find when it was airing on every channel to try and see as much of it as possible. I always thought Dr. Cox was one of the funniest characters on TV, and particularly enjoyed the episode that made him out to be the "Dr. House" of the show. Likewise, JD and Turk's "guy love" was always great, and was honestly pretty impressive with how it normalized close straight friendships. Unlike Raising Hope, where the show was amazing because of the fantastic main cast, I think Scrubs really shined because of it's minor characters. The Janitor was probably the standout of the support cast, but everyone from Ted to Hooch to The Todd to Snoop Dogg Doctor made the show what it was. After 7 seasons they ended it before moving it to ABC for an 8th. The 8th season wasn't the best, but it did give the show a much better series finale than NBC had ended Season 7 on. But THEN they decided to bring it back for a half-assed ninth season that really just shouldn't have ever happened.

*high five*

More people should really watch that show. I've been rewatching it lately and it's just so consistently great.
