i'm almost done with it.

Just beat dungeon 7, 85 hours into the game. Took a month and a half long break at the 60 hour mark, and have been going hard the last few days.

If I hated Persona 3, would I hate Persona 5?

It has one of my favorite normal battle music tracks in any rpg ever. I'd always try to time the all out attacks to the "you'll never see it coming" part of 'Last Surprise'.

Yes, I definitely hated all the talking. I remember just wanting to get into the dungeons and fight.

If that's what you hate, then yeah, probably.

Though dungeons are better designed in this game. The multi-floor randomly generated dungeon is optional. Main story dungeons aren't randomly generated.

I enjoyed the game...

BUT...

I think they screwed up with making the palaces based off of people outside the school. It should have been connected to the school to make it more interesting.

Also, the story focuses MOSTLY on Makoto. Everyone else just disappears with the wind. Also, they didn't bother actually having you guess who the culprit is. It was easy to find out. Not that Persona 4 was THAT hard to figure out, but I went into that game not thinking to much about the culprit and it surprised me

I just beat P5. I think my favorite aspect of the game is just how well everything escalates. The stakes keep getting raised each palace. You start off fighting a gym teacher and end up killing a god.

I wanna do a NG+ playthrough sometime, and hopefully get everything to rank 10. I fucked up pretty hard and didn't get too many rank 10s, so i missed a lot of dialogue, especially in the last 3 hours or so of the game.

What carries over in NG+?

That depends entirely on which Confidants you want to max, but Knowledge is the one that is easiest to level up and most frequently tested (... literally; you need it for your exams, since getting high marks will get you good stuff).

Charm and Knowledge imo, as well as 3 guts.

I'll list what you'll need at some point throughout the links. So to do so without without spoiling I'll list the confidants by arcana.

Kindness: 2 for Lover start, 4 for Hermit start, 5 for Hierophant
Guts: 2 for Death start, 3 for Temperance start, 4 and then 5 for Hanged Man
Knowledge: 3 for Priestess start , 5 for Star (Also let's you rank higher during exams which grants charm)
Charm: 3 for Star start, 4 for Death (towards end), 5 for Priestess
Proficiency: I believe 4 for emperor and 5 for empress start.

How do you actually start NG+? I beat the game but it doesn't let me start a new game using my old save. Maybe I'm an idiot though and it's right in front of me or something.

Also, who plays Persona for the dungeons and not the story and dialogue? P5 is the first game in the series where the dungeons weren't an absolute bore.

You save over your file after the final cutscene (With you driving back home with your friends), then load up your clear data. There's still an hour+ of cutscenes after the final boss.

Use all of them, they all gain exp whether or not they participated in a battle. Haru is one of the most powerful allies, because of her Walls. Physical is also very powerful, so Ryuji or Yusuke are useful. Don't underestimate debuffs, which Ann excels at, and Haru and Makoto can utilize (Depending on the type of debuff, Psy or Nuke causes a "technical" which is basically a crit w/o the knockdown). Morgana is a powerful healer, and is useful to have for Samerecarn (res with full HP) and Diarahan (full party full heal).

Early to mid game, until you get better SP sustain, it's best to alternate through your whole party. As in, once someone is low on SP, move them out, and sub them in with someone else. SP is your biggest limiting factor early game for how long you can be in a dungeon, and proper management of it will allow you to finish every dungeon in one night (excluding events that force you to leave, or calling cards). Another note on this: make sure you're buying drinks from vending machines. They're really your only option for SP restoration items until later. They restock once a week (on mondays). The machines that sell SP drinks are 1) outside the public baths, 2) in the arcade, and 3) at the courtyard in school. Once you can travel to the north district (the one with Crossroads bar), there are two vending machines there that have SP items.

Also, if you do the Shoji social link (in the church), you gain the ability to swap party members mid battle, allowing you to swap allies if an enemy has an attack that hits their weakness

Worst dungeon is hands down 7 though. You'll know when you play it why.
