I was in the original beta (With like everyone who ever wanted to be, although I donated for it).

Not sure how well the game will work without a mouse/keyboard, but they made it work for D3 so shrug, I guess it can work.

Can't wait for the next expansion though....is that part of the beta?

there's a buttload of people playing it though, besides, you'd think I'd at least see one other person in a field if they actually did it that way, which they don't, I think.

seeing as how mobs don't return until you end game and restart it, if other people were in the field with you they could just kill everything and you have nothing.

You don't see people in world unless you're partied. The games is instanced. Only in town. That's the way it's meant to be. If you want to "pause" just port to town.

I found PoE's lack of pause much less obnoxious than Souls'. It'd be nice to be able to pause, but I generally didn't find it was an issue, especially where you'll want to port back to town periodically anyway to empty your inventory and porting back early therefore isn't too bad. Most builds can also clear a screen in a few seconds at most, so making a safe spot to afk is pretty easy. I'd also accept that, from a technical side, it's hard to pause individual instances, but I don't know that for sure.

The only place where I did find it to be a problem was the Labyrinth, but that's sort of an inevitable side effect of how the Labyrinth works.

You can basically just Portal out of any area as a temporary "pause". That being said, you can also find some random corner of the map and usually be safe.

The good thing about PoE is that in 3.0 you're not getting an XP penalty until the end of Part 1 (~40) so it should be much more "fun" to level.

I wonder how Shift+Casting works in the console version. Leap Slam is going to be ass if you can't Shift+Cast it.

Yeah, no pause is not a problem at all. I played it a ton while taking care of my wife and I had to stop constantly back then (why I couldn't play multiplayer games and am just starting to finally do so now).

You have UNLIMITED portal scrolls lol....seriously you can teleport back any time you want, go make dinner and come back afterwards. You seriously have a gazillion ways to set it up so even if enemies do spawn near you on a map, your minions will take them out (and usually once you clear an area, nothing else will spawn and attack you, and you clear areas FAST).

IF you liked D2 at all, PoE is a great expansion on that system. Your various characters STILL don't seem as diverse as D2's, but it's gotten a bit better and the expansion will probably continue to increase customization options.

It took me a long time to really play D3 at all, because PoE just seemed so much better to me (and D3 just didn't let me really customize my characters much). I was in the original beta, and have played it almost every year since then.

The nature of this genre is the reason why there is no pauses, this game is always online, there is no offline or single player mode. If you wanna "pause", use a portal or a waypoint and go to town...towns are safe to AFK.

I mean you can even just log out. It's not like the nearest waypoint is very far away.

typically, the game either have the other person wait, as in Diablo 3 (better game btw) or Borderlands, for you to come back and unpause.

It wouldn't surprise me if it actually can't. I'm sure that, if they really worked at it, they could design it to be able to pause, but it also wouldn't surprise me at all if that would take a huge amount of work. Toss in that there's little benefit, and you've got ample reason to not bother.

you're probably right. if it wasn't designed with it in mind, it's likely not there and would require a lot of work to enable it.

however, there probably is a pause function in the game, i don't actually see them not designing it. what probably happened is just they decided to not use it.

Ya man.. Diablo 3 is soOoOOoo much better. Only 4 players.. No actual skills trees. Small maps..No actual character building and depth.. And just gonna love the Disney style graphics and lack of any good pvp

Path of exile = Dark game/dark graphics. Huge maps with alot of randomization to the tile sets. Massive skill trees. Plenty of builds and choices that matter. Trading and pvp.... and more then 4 players.

Yet.. Diablo 3 is superior? Diablo 3 is a dumb downed cartoony ARPG that was made by a casual for casuals. So maybe thats why you like it? You like simple things..?


I mean seriously.. Who cries about TPing to towns in a open world, always online ARPG? Besides you?

Oooh booo hoo you had to open a quick portal to town. That takes 1 second longer then using the pause button.. IM GONNA DELETE this FREE Game.. just because of that!!!

Pausing does not work in a 100% online game, you can't pause in World of Warcraft so you can't pause in Path of Exile. If you port to town that is where you are 100% safe no matter how long you are AFK.

What's next asking for a pause feature in a game like Overwatch or Rocket League (when playing against RL players)?
