I'm not really familiar with the politics of the boy scouts, do they really hit the Trump supporter demographic or were they giving Trump the benefit of the doubt? Because his speech was just awful.

I don't really care that he was invited, it's a presidential tradition, but it's getting to the point where that's not an acceptable excuse anymore. I mean, the speech was completely embarrassing and this time he was talking to a bunch of children. How many more embarrassing speeches will it take before people get the hint?
And this is what his supporters wanted, a guy who doesn't care about traditions or keeping up appearances. Yet they wanna have their cake and eat it too by falling back on the "at least you have to respect the office" excuse. He's changed all that we used to think about "respecting the office" ... The president is the honorary leader of the scouts, so - as a matter of tradition - he's always invited. But the scouts are supposed to be non-partisan and the presidents are expected to adhere to that and keep their speeches free of politics. Which Trump completely didn't do.
