Semi-successfully. I downloaded some app that pretty much does all of it for you, but I only did it to get rid of bloatware. I didn't totally brick it, but I stopped being able to download some apps that it now said weren't compatible, so ehh

Yeah, I used to do it all the time. Some of the modern phones make it a lot more difficult (if not impossible) to do now though. They used to make it really easy for you too. "One touch roots" were all the rage.

I don't root anymore though because I don't really need to. All the cool features from ROMs get put into main releases now. It also voids your warranty and whatnot.

I have a Nexus so I don't even have the bloatware it would just be nice to customize more. You can also root, modify, and unroot I think. I don't really know.

My phone is out of warranty at this point so less of a concern but I wouldn't want to brick it. The battery is just showing its wear and age and I'd love to use naptime to better manage it. Doze I can get unrooted but I'm finding it completely misses going into deep sleep sometimes and I wake up with a phone with 0 power

I did it once, I had to download some tool and root it over USB. It's really stupid. They need to protect their pay2win scam-game market.

Windows should make a phone and actually let people.. idk, use it? Maybe let it run .exe's and let the community take care of the UI transition? Gee, maybe Windows apps wouldn't have failed so hard if people actually used Windows phone.

Windows apps were free and far between and can't blame users for not wanting that system

I downloaded a rooting program for my PC.
Basically all I had to do was plug my phone in and click a button after- I think- telling it what model the phone was.

The hard part was installing a whole new OS.

You might have to buy a new battery, but rooting could be worth a shot first since it's free. Just be aware you aren't going to get any updates to your phone after you root it. Even if you unroot it, there's a byte of untouchable memory that tells your phone it's been rooted.

Not even security patches? That seems like there's a way to work around things but I don't know

New battery may be difficult with a 6P

If you want updates after you root it you can flash an OS like cyanogenmod, which is supposedly an improved android OS anyway.

Other than that malware and viruses aren't really a thing on android unless you have a targetted attacker, like a stalker that really knows their hacking stuff, so you're not really missing out on much there. I'm interested why you're rooting your phone, I guess you want to underclock for battery life?

I want to run naptime to optimize battery life and doing things like changing fonts or notification sounds seem to require root access.

The Nexus 6P does not have its warranty voided by root

But my phone is also almost 2 years old so no warranty anyway.

The rooting wasn't the hard part, the hard part was figuring out how to install a new OS.

....And then I went on to get a new phone juuuuust in time for Niantic to block the game from working on rooted phones. I dodged a massive "fuck you for trying" bullet.

I run a custom rom on my Galaxy S6. Rooting only works well on popular phones because they have better support. You can always try something like KingRoot if you're desperate.

Doctor Foxx posted...
I have a Nexus

Should be so easy to root a Nexus. Just look up custom Roms and download one that includes a supersu or whatever.

Try the xda forum for your exact model.

I've never heard of an IMEI number before now. A few Google searches later and I'm a little worried but I think there's only so much someone can do with it?
Looks like Kingo have a bit of a reputation for playing loose with user privacy (though the software does do exactly what it says it does)...

Good for you that's not always the case

I had a good look at my phone and no way would I try and replace the battery myself. Solid aluminum body and the weird glass panel on the back. Too bad. My only complaint about my phone is the battery really.

Might try for more root tonight. After Pokemon hunting.
