The fact that China says "fuck it, we're out" if North Korea starts it and "we're in" if they don't makes the chances of either side firing the first shot pretty slim. It's suicide for the DPRK to start it without China backing them, and America starting it will tank the global economy... Which is definitely worse for them and China more than anybody else (other than North Korea), because I doubt many western countries would actually back an American first-strike. At best, they may join in later if they feel their own self-interests require it.

North Korea basically ups the rhetoric any time western media starts seeping through their iron curtain to try and distract people from how shitty their lives are by comparison. That's how I kinda see it. There's too much economical ties that if shit does hit the fan, it won't be good for either countries. I am sure many have already suggested to completely stop importing from China but I feel that is just not practical at the moment or if ever.

That's how I kinda see it. There's too much economical ties that if shit does hit the fan, it won't be good for either countries. I am sure many have already suggested to completely stop importing from China but I feel that is just not practical at the moment or if ever.

Yeah, as at the very least, trade between the US and China would stop if they were at war, which is enough to seriously damage both economies and the world as a whole. I highly doubt most countries would drop China if America shot first though. Some might, but not everyone in the west...

Plus it wouldn't really be a war. NK would inflict some damage then be completely obliterated in the same afternoon. In general, the concept of world wars was a thing BECAUSE we didn't have the capacity to instantly wipe out almost entire countries at the push of a button. Nukes changed all that.

And, given the US's capacity, if we nuked NK tomorrow -- without them striking first -- we'd more likely be sanctioned than attacked because nobody would risk physically retaliating knowing how many more nukes we have.

Yeah, it'd basically be NK trying and failing because of all the missile defense systems in Japan and SK, followed by a blank check for America to retaliate. Seoul is the only place in harm's way, honestly, as artillery would rip it to shreds as soon as the first shots were fired. Since 1994 (iirc), the various presidents have simply opted to hand NK aid which has simply allowed them to continue their nuclear ambitions and reallocate resources they otherwise maybe couldn't. Clinton, Bush, and Obama are all equally to blame for this present situation. Obviously the Kim family needs somebody to stand up to them and tell them no. This is the most progress the west has ever made with them, and China, frankly.
