That was after the producers of the show were ahead of the books (still unwritten and finished) and decided to make things up as they went. It didn't help that they went full Hollywood with the show (the ending of season 6 was asinine in how they went full Michael Bay mode. And how unsatisfying it felt seeing some big characters die in a lame explosion) And can we talk how Tyrion has had nothing to do for two seasons? He's just... there.
