I would barricade myself with food and water first, but even at the first sign of trouble and I'd pull the trigger. Like if I heard the door rattling and a human wasn't shouting on the other side, I'd cock the gun and hold it to my head, and then if they burst through then I pull the trigger.

Even running zombies are far less dangerous then wild animals in mans past, which we dealt with just fine without technology, guns, or things like ladders etc.

As the walking dead does a decent job of showing, the real danger in a zombie apocalypse isn't the zombies, it's the other humans.

Zombies are a terrible enemy as they'd just fall apart easily. If you had a leather or denim jacket, they'd probably dislocate their jaw attempting to bite you...

the problem with zombie fiction is it assumes the military is absolutely inept and that for some reason zombies showing up means total panic and them having like 10 million zombies in every city. plus they'd fall apart in the heat and freeze in the cold. they're not very intimidating unless you're fighting a fresh group of them.
