I love Wild ARMs musics. Michiko Narauke is pretty talented.

Since WA1's overworld and dungeon themes have already been posted, along with the remix found in Alter Code F...

BIG SPOILERS FOR WILD ARMS 3 IN THIS VIDEO
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Wj9IfSTmwk

I love that in Wild Arms 3 (and I think 2 did it too...and 4. Maybe 5 I never got that far in it) had the anime intro extend as you hit key parts in the game.

And you know what? I liked Beatrice in 3. A lot of people talk about how she's an ass-pull but her presence is known throughout the game and you actually see her a lot if you pay attention. I love that kind of subtle foreshadowing. I also like the idea of Beatrice, a creature that exists within the 'memory' of a place and just wants a world of her own.

Wild ARMs 3 had a lot of problems, like a slow SLOW start and kinda boring battle system, but the story and writing were both a lot of fun.

Man

Imagine if they evolved Wild ARMs 3's cel-shaded look to today's standards and made the battle system a kind of Chrono Trigger / X-COM hybrid where battles happened seamlessly and used Force as a AP kind of thing I dunno I'm just spitballing but they could make a killer Wild Arms 6 if they tried but like a lot of classic JRPG franchises everybody just seems content with it being dead.

I loved those games. The third would have been my favorite, but I rage quit because of a puzzle near the end.

You're over a pit and a tile appears before you, in one of four directions. It's completely random, so you can't predict things or read a guide.

Have you seen Guilty Gear Xrd? They actually force the animations to something like 20-30 frames per second to make it emulate an anime look, which I thought was a neat idea. When I first saw clips of the game, I wasn't entirely sure if it was 3D with cel-shading, or actual 2D animation.

The first game had an anime opening. The second game had an opening and an animated "ending" if you choose to quit when you save your game. It even has a second opening to make it feel like it has a "second season". The WA series obviously wants that sort of "anime" feel, so that cel-shaded animation style would be perfect for it.

Game consoles have never been more ready for that 'actual anime' look than today. Even a game like the PS3's Time and Eternity had really amazing character sprites (even if the actual animation was janky). Games like Tales of Vesperia, too.

Media Vision still exists, too. The last thing they made was Digimon Cyber Sleuth which was pretty well-received, so they still got it. Though it was published by Sony--I dunno if that has any relevance or causes any issues.

Madhouse did the opening animation for the first game? I didn't know that either.

I love JRPG and am highly interested in, but haven't played any of the serious.

The GOAT VGM channel supra darky showed me how awesome the series music is though.

the one gripe. the *one* gripe.
wild arms 2's standard battle theme had the most obnoxious introduction in video game history.

Let's talk about Alter Code F for a bit.

The intro isn't as good as the original. It's fine, but the animation seems like it was made for a much higher-tempo song. The original animation was more tuned to Into the Wilderness. Take a look:

Original -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrDV6VksSRU

Alter Code F -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO2DqsD0hSo

The gameplay and localization of Alter Code F is a lot better though, I think....from what I remember. I only played it once a few weeks after it released and that was fourteen years ago holy fuck, I have to stop looking up old game release dates :/.

The attention to detail was great. The character models looks really good and I remember some spice being added to battles though I can't recall just what. I know it used I think 3's encounter avoidance system (or maybe 2's).

Then there's that pivotal point where Rudy loses his arm but in Alter Code F you get to choose the specs of his new arm when he gets it back and it was stuff like THAT that made it a great remake. It kept the spirit of Wild Arms while also adhering to the trends and foundations of all the PS2 JRPGs that surrounded it.

Also a great soundtrack.

I also really liked Wild Arms 4's battle system. I thought it was a lot of fun. Too bad the game overall was fairly easy...and it's super too bad that the series died after 5 because another game could have really polished that system to a shine.

I played through it halfway before life got in the way. I still have my copy, so someday.

I remember the theme of the story was creating diversity or something. There was a lot of talk about a metaphorical 'wall' that divided certain races.

I did, as previously stated, really like the battle system.
