If a site does that nowadays I just stop going to it. They are essentially saying "we want to give you cancer and fuck you for saying no!"

Yup. I know a booru site where they tried asking multiple times before this stuff, and I got viruses from their advertising twice. They deleted my messages pointing that out when I said that is the reason they will not get another chance. Now the site is ****ing broken with how they work, can't favourite, comment or vote at all, will only load image samples, etc.

Even worse on my phone running Opera Mini, it won't load images at all unless I disable the ad block feature it has

I find NoScript works better than actual adblock... especially since the problem with ads isn't commercialism, but how they hijack your page.

Its not really difficult finding what scripts to turn on or off, hasnt been a site I've really had trouble with in years

Its not really difficult finding what scripts to turn on or off, hasnt been a site I've really had trouble with in years

It can be a pain on some sites. The number of sites that rely on 20+ different domains to deliver content is kind of alarming, and sifting through all of the advertising domains to find the content does sometimes get annoying.

Allow [domain] and [obvious CDN], and suddenly 95% of that 80% starts working again.
All you're usually missing is comments, but those are full of poison anyway.

Why are people incapable of taking the best response in the thread and applying it to their life instead of using the old, antiquated way of doing something?

There is a rare corner case where ublocko doesn't pick up something, and its usually cross-server popups. For that I use Poper Blocker, but there's only one site I've ever seen that I've needed it for.

You don't need NoScript. Actually I don't think I've used it in 10 years.

The Addon by definition breaks 90% of sites on the internet due to how integrated JavaScript is in every single site. Just use a Blacklist-based content blocker like uBlocko or set up a Pihole.

I've just been using plain Adblock since it's leagues better than Plus. This sounds almost ironic, but keep in mind that plain and Plus are from different developers, and plain lets you opt out with ease from allowing advertisers to seep through... since plain wasn't bought out like Plus was.

(iirc, that's why many of us stopped using Ad Aware too many years ago)

AdBlock is what you use when you can't install NoScript and uBlock. Which I guess means Internet Explorer.

I like the Firefox engine. I use SeaMonkey. I've got NoScript, uBlock Origin, and the browser's built-in security features. Whatever gets past one gets tackled by the other(s).

Interesting. I was unaware of uBlock Origin. ... *uses that to replace AdBlock Plus* There we go. The Vivaldi browser seems to like it okay. Thank you!

I allow all scripts by default and manually toggle the block for malicious ones as they affect me.
It's just nice to have a button at the top that lets me selectively block scripts. I don't micromanage it, or even touch it more than once a month.

But yeah I should switch away from AdBlock. It's been cracking lately.

I use NoScript because I do like personally white listing things. I also use uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger. All of these work on Firefox mobile too, so they're on my phone as well as my desktop.

There's a way to beat those adblock blockers but frankly I find more enjoyment out of simply refusing those sites business.

I have seen enough shitty ads overrun my phone to know that I don't have any reason to believe the people who run websites actually have any idea of the kind of schlock they allow to be advertised on their site and the methods used to deliver those ads to the viewer. So if you don't tightly control your site's advertising content, I have no reason to accede to your desire to force me to look at ads as if you somehow deserve it.

I used to use No Script ... before I had to abandon Firefox (too bloated to use on this particular PC, at this point in time). It did take a very long time to fine-tune it to permit the sites I needed it to permit while blocking the bulk of the bad stuff.
