Why does everyone say the UK is going to have Sharia Law soon.
This is pretty messed up. Glad I don't live there.

The US is doing it too.

A former cop has been jailed for 2 years (and counting) because he refuses to decrypt his hard drive. He's been accused of having child porn on his computer, and the authorities say it's a "forgone conclusion" that the encrypted hard drive contains CP because they were able to link the hash values to known CP. But the fact remains that they have yet to actually charge him with anything related to child porn. He's being held on contempt of court charges, which the maximum sentence is 18 months (which he's already exceeded by about 6 months). He's arguing that being forced to decrypt his hard drives violates his fifth amendment right (you cannot be compelled to testify against yourself).

Thing is even without these kinds of stories there's all kinds of things that are bad we could talk about, like the NSA watching you masturbate through your webcam and so on.

Yeah, ultimately both our countries suck in how they flippantly invade our privacy without a care - and in how much people are all too happy to allow it under the illusion it keeps them safe.

I've been reading that the US DHS is going to start requiring that people who immigrated to the US are supposed to provide their social media handles and aliases now... I don't know if that's going to be a thing but that would be some pretty crazy bullshit if so.

Rabbani is the 36-year-old international director of Cage, a British group that was founded in 2003 to raise awareness about the plight of prisoners held at the U.S. government's Guantánamo Bay detention site. Today, the organization has a broader focus and says it is working to highlight "the erosion of the rule of law in the context of the war on terror." Due to its work campaigning for the legal rights of terrorism suspects, Cage has attracted controversy, and Rabbani has faced the government's wrath.

His trouble at Heathrow Airport in late November began with a familiar routine. Often, on his return to the U.K. from foreign trips, he was stopped by police and questioned under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act a sweeping power British authorities can use at the border to interrogate and search people without requiring any suspicion of wrongdoing. People questioned under Schedule 7 have no right to remain silent, and they can be interrogated for up to six hours. Rabbani estimates that he has been stopped under Schedule 7 about 20 times. Usually, he was let free after a few questions without any charges or arrest. But not this time.

This is something Americans should be applauding.

Why?

US's guantanemo bay, interrogating people under the cause of terrorism? That's the recipe for American patriotism.
