Pringle QC described Woodward, an aspiring heart surgeon, as an extraordinarily able young lady, whose talents meant that a prison sentence would be too severe.

Standing trial in May, Woodward pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding, after she punched and stabbed Cambridge student Thomas Fairclough whilst under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Judge is a jackass.

We say stabbed, it was a freaking bread knife it did no lasting damage and she's studying to be a doctor. She's making concerted efforts to reform getting off drugs, and her parole violation was to apologise to her victim.

I'm failing to see how the justice system failed here. This is literally their job, to go lenient on the people who fuck up once and will learn their lesson without destroying their entire lives over a minor event.

To be honest, while it's absolutely true people of lower class are treated more harshly in cases like this, I do think how this was handled, is probably how it should be handled for all, instead of how lower class people being handled should be how it's handled for all.

And you know, of all the reasons to let someone off, it's at least a lot better than just "well you're rich" or "but what about SPORTBALL"

So make no mistake: I agree the way the law treats people of various groups is unfair. I don't agree that emulating unfairly harsh treatment and giving her that is the right way to go. Lift up those below, instead of drag those above down into the pit as well.

Well it's convient that those who can change the system just happen to be unaffected by it because they have money or connections.

Unless you have a better idea I'm all for holding the higher up to the same standards as the lowest until they campaign to change the system. Throw her in for 15 years and maybe her parents will do something to try and change the system.

Instead condoning this is pretty much saying, "eh, I'm sure it will all work out eventually".

Yeah, people who say shit like him do so because they don't actually know anything about the system, much less care for those affected Unless they're affluent.

People get locked up for decades for not violent crimes but she "barely stabbed a guy".

Although one thing missing from that article is the victim's perspective. I found it odd his input was not given. The article did mention people complaining about this decision though, but not mentioning the victim complaining about it which may suggest they're not upset about this outcome at least.
