Mostly video game logic but I always rationalized it like maybe at low level his shots all land in like the toes or something and as he levels he targets more vital areas.

He can hold it and aim better? I dunno. Why is it that a character at the start of a game can use guns but do single digit damage but another one who joins later can fight with fists and hit more times and faster than guns? Like. A barrage of bullets? One number pops up for damage. Fists? Oh lawd.

it was the 5th game where they had a reload mechanic because everyone used a gun except for one character who used a sword but they didn't bother making a special exception for her so they just made you reload the sword.

Ah, only played 1-3, and part of 4.

I do own five, but only recently completed 3 and started 4.

Really wish they'd grab some of the old developers and revive the series. Definitely need the old music composer too.

A good one


Phantasy Star II then.

The guns did roughly the same damage regardless of attack and defense stats. Melee weapons were thus stronger on organic enemies and guns were more effective against mechanical enemies.

Also in many RPGs, the strength stat isn't supposed to be a 'physical strength' like the core attribute strength of tabletop RPGs, and merely an indicator of physical combat power alone. If the game uses the strength stat for stuff outside of combat, like carry weight, breaking doors, etc. then it doesn't make sense, but if it is just using strength as a 'damage stat' for physical as opposed to magical/psychic then it doesn't bother me.

Because dexterity is your hand eye coordination skill, so some games use it to mean if you can aim a projectile better, you are moor likely to hit vital areas for more damage.

In a lot of tabletop RPGs and inspired cRPGs, projectiles don't have damage scaling with stats, and dex scales likelyhood to hit. Then you pick up feats, or better bows to do more damage, Such as a feat that deals more damage if you are within close range, or compound bows that deal more damage but require a certain amount of strength to draw effectively.

Everyone knows higher str means you can push wind harder. When you shoot a gun, you use that force to make the bullet travel faster and thus do more damage
