It's crass to ask and I'm not asking because I'm rooting for it, but it's a mental exercise worth doing. I'd imagine something on the scale of the Paris shootings a few years back could spark something, but the shooter matters a lot too. Like if it was just some Muslim(s) that went nuts and killed 200 people for Allah, I don't think it would be a gun control issue in the national consciousness, but more a terrorism question. I'm really not sure that anything short of a 9/11 like event with just guns would matter in terms of new laws. Like people calling this a false flag by deep state liberals don't get how little this Vegas attack will have any effect on legislation. It might get some stuff through, like closing the gun show loophole and requiring background checks, etc. for private sales, but the government isn't coming for anyone's guns. It's a dead end street politically for Democrats and it's basically a religion for Republicans.

What you need to realize is that mass killing has been normalized in the West. In America we're numb to gun violence and in Europe they're numb to terrorist attacks.

Well not necessarily numb, but both those things happen so frequently that people just see it as a normal part of life and not worth getting too worked up over.

And yes it's utterly sick that mass deaths can be shrugged off in a 1st world country.

That still wouldn't be enough. If this happened 20-30+ times and most the victims were part of the NRA/inbred hicks, then there might be a chance of something happening.
