In fairness, Battle Royale is better than Hunger Games. Not because it's "edgier" but because it just has a much more serious tone.

Hunger Games is still good, though. They're not mutually exclusive like some people seem to insist.

Yep, good movie. Fat kid with the crossbow had me hooked. Plus I saw it on the tail end of MXC being popular here, so Beat Takeshi being in it helped spark my interest.

even in this topic the TC is pretending that battle royale was an original idea
it wasnt. there are stories of death battles throughout history
it was not unique when battle royale did it and it was not unique when hunger games did it and both had completely different overall themes so to call hunger games a rip off of battle royale is and always has been complete and utter horse shit

battle royale was an anti war story using young teens to help demonstrate how awful pointless battles are

hunger games was anti corrupt government film highlighting the danger so blindly obeying authority.

plus battle royale was aimed at an adult audience while hunger games was aimed at teens.

anyway i have seen battle royale, read the book, and read the manga.

also fun fact about battle royale
the story has 3 main focus characters. and 3 versions of the story (the movie, book, and manga all differ greatly on a few plot points) well anyway out of the 3 focus characters in each version of the story it is a different one of the three that kills the main bad student. in the movie its kawada that kills him. in the manga its shuya that kills him. and in the book it is noriko that kills him

Yes, because there was this guy at high school who was a nerd on Japanese stuff(not enough to be full-on weeaboo though, personally) and he very, VERY strongly insisted that the whole class watch the movies in the classroom during the 'leisure days' when final exams were finished but we still had to come to school to wait for the results.

So he put it on and we all watched it.

I hated it. One of the worst movies I saw that year, honestly.
