From all accounts, you just need to consistently make the wrong decisions. That doesn't sound especially difficult.

Take it. Generally, HR is where you fulfill your nepotism quota after irrelevant management positions have been used up.

If I've learned anything from my experience with HR across several companies...

They only employ people who have no idea what they are doing, so you're good

I was an HR generalist for 2 years. Have an HR-focused MBA, and a professional certification. Got laid off over a year ago and currently deal Blackjack and Roulette. Big companies fill their HR roles with middle-aged people who have 15 years experience doing the same thing with no career growth, small companies fill their roles by not having them, and instead just add random responsibilities to other jobs, or just have the secretary do most of it.

So if youre getting more money out of it, do it, they probably wont even know if youre doing a good job or not unless they get sued or fined.

Damn you probably make tons of money dealing cards at a casino. Kinda jealous.

Yes. HR often relates more to specific company policies anyway tbh.

There's a more "technical" side to HR (payroll, health and life insurance, pension funds) but I figure a part-time job will just have you coordinate, input or file HR requests and documents.

HR is however a fascinating field and the idea that there's no challenge or movement within it is false. Employer branding, talent acquisition, diversity, etc. often fall under HR and they are exciting topics for sure (imo). I have worked in HR consultancy in the past and it's challenging/quite interesting, and much more literature-heavy than you'd expect. I enjoy it.

In big companies where they actively make HR a priority, absolutely. Most companies however just roll up HR as a payroll and benefits center under someone like the CFO with no actual direction. Hell, the half-billion dollar casino I deal at which opened this year and has a workforce of around 1000 has one guy who is the head of HR and Guest Services. Like...why?

Not as much as he makes playing professional smash LOL

There are actually definitely days where a tournament pays me more than my wages. But most of my Smash revenue these days comes from my company running events as opposed to me just playing in them.

In my experience, human resource managers despise humans. All you really need to work the job is an intense hatred of your fellow human beings.
