That's a recent thing:


They've had issues handling the server capacity in Asia, and there were in game ads targeting Asian players to use VPNs as a workaround. It didn't go over well.

PUBG looks like it's making inroads into an entirely new market. One issue with tracking PUBG sales through Steamspy is that too many people are making new Steam accounts just to buy PUBG in such a short period of time that it's causing a delay in accurate sampling.

It's kind of funny, because Valve did absolutely nothing in response to review bombing in the past, but once people started doing it to DOTA 2 in light of the HL3 Episode 3 synopsis release, now we have this.

I guess the two key differences between it and battle royale is that you start from a moving plane, rather than an abandoned school, and weapons are on the field, rather than being assigned to you at random.

Nah. The point of Battle Royale's random weapons in the school is that you could get something incredible like an AK47 or something just awful like a paper fan.

The guy starting with the paper fan turns out to be a sociopath who joined for fun and is the third last person standing. It's awesome.

It's so far away from everyone else! I guess it's a good spot if you're looking to get into the top 25 but you're not usually equipped for what's to come.

I think it's because unlike h1z1 it didn't release with mixed reception and had a clear vision. Unlike Day Z it's actually consistently playable for most people... and streamers all took to it immediately wanting a more dedicated H1Z1 King of the Kill experience.

All of that combined made it blow up with the additional reasons of it was made by a popular trusted modder, indie love, and people who wanted to try h1z1/day z but had had awful experiences because they didn't know the map could jump in fresh with everyone else.

Lightning in a bottle basically, wait for the AAA to splurge money on trying to recapture and pissing money up a wall.

While I haven't played Fortnite myself, I've watched streamers play it and it doesn't look anywhere near as good as PUBG to me. Guess it's because it's free.

it's successful because it's a (relatively) new genre and the first game of the genre to be decent

i'm thinking this is maybe the everquest of the genre, and the WoW is yet to be produced

oh, and i like the cluster of buildings northeast of swamp town, the farm, and all of the little building clusters in the middle-bottom part of the map

and if i'm playing for chicken dinners i usually just jump out of the plane at a 90 degree angle and go as far as i can

but i try to explore everywhere. school and the center cities are fun for a good time. military base and that whole southern island just sucks

the game just creates great stories. 95% of the game is super slow, so those heated moments of conflict feel more meaningful. i could start spinning them off but nobody would care.

the fact that there are team AND solo modes (where you're not jammed with random teammates) with quick queue times is fantastic

If I had friends who played this, I'd probably love it. But if you're just playing it alone? I dunno. Doesn't seem great.

If you're playing alone it's a great horror game if you're bad at it and a great murder simulator if you're highly competitive
