It's strange for some reason you think my opinion is about Bravely Default as a game though. I have no opinion at all, because I haven't played it. I doubt I ever will just based on the nature of my life these days and the games I play tend to be more limited. I mean I think Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest are all pretty bad games, if I discount any nostalgia value. Doesn't mean I would boycott them being represented in this contest though. That even holds true for Mystic Quest, which I've never said anything about despite Tristam being around for a number of years. It's a pretty bad game, as are those others I mentioned. But they are Final Fantasy games and I'd not make up any reasons to discount their characters.

The whole thing is just asinine. I'm 99% sure Bravely Default is several times over better than all those games, just because I have a hard time believing a modern RPG would not be better than those 4. But it has nothing to do with that.

I don't care about BD being in this but I can at least see the logic against it. Claiming that people would exclude FFII if they could get away with it is a bit silly, too. One has Final Fantasy in the name and the other doesn't. There's a logically consistent argument to be made there without you presuming stuff about their motives for making it.

Also, I forget, is there a reason why Kingdom Hearts original characters (like, not the Disney ones) are excluded from this? I'd argue they have as much of a right as Bravely Default, if not more. I feel like this was discussed during nominations but I basically missed those.

Yeah, everyone knows I'm a huge fan of Jigglypuff and was glad to have it win one of my contests over legit characters. I could have pulled out the "Jigglypuff began as a species, not a character. So it's not allowed, this contest is for characters only". Just like this current contest I let people have Lucy in, even though she's not a credible doctor in any way or form and just masquerades as one. Despite all she does is really offer advice, which anyone could do. That doesn't make everyone a psychiatrist though. I let her stay because it made the people who play it happy, more than it made a few people annoyed with the decision.

I take a lot of flak more often for allowing stuff than I do for not allowing it, but whatever you need to tell yourself dude. Your opinion on me is just about as low as a few unmentionable deplorables I guess, that's pretty damn sad. I'm a truly horrible person and I should be ashamed of myself.

Final Fantasy II having Final Fantasy in the name means that you can't get away with it, pretty much, so I mean, yeah.

Keep in mind some people (not sure vchar was in on that) argued against Dad because Final Fantasy Legend 2 is a Secret of Mana* game so I mean people aren't even consistent on this. The only consistency is "if I can get artificially thin the field I will"

Kingdom Hearts's only similarity to FF's style is in having appearances from its characters, which, being honest, recurring characters aren't a feature of the Final Fantasy to begin with. I wouldn't legitimately argue for Ehrgeiz characters to be in this just as I wouldn't legitimately argue for KH characters.

Bravely Default has a lot of things that are clearly borrowed from FF. Crystals, the jobs, the combat system, airships, item names. There are some token distinctions like "omg no chocoboz" and "there's no Final Fantasy in the title just Flying Fairy with bolded Fs" but I mean, yeah, it's pretty clearly got the feel of one in a ton of ways. Much moreso than Kingdom Hearts.

I think over time you've gotten better with it, but I do feel like the first few you were particularly gung ho with disqualifying "jokey" entries like Jerry the King Lawler as a King and such.
