2%. 2 fucking percent, and I would've had him. I must've mistimed my finisher with FV, going off a bit too early in the chain. I had both espers summoned, damage was going good, but I missed it by two goddamn percent. If FV had a holy weapon or I hadn't mistimed my hit, I could've had him. Goddamnit.

Oh, okay! Thats actually what I ended up doing. Since DV was pure support I gave him Lakshmi for confusion resist. On turns where he had to apply that, my TT took over MP drain duties since she had Diablos. WoL did his tanking, Tilith did break resists and MP restore, Ayaka did buffs and MP restore, and the friend TT nuked. He never even came close. It was kind of sad, soul Siphon couldnt even take away 100 MP from Ayaka, and Tilith was only losing about 200. Since Ayaka restores around 130 per turn with that setup, MP wasnt going to run low, especially with the TTs having a lot of Spr as well.

Now that I have my tickets I can just do that daily and run the cactuar level for Illusionist Nichol.

Im about ready to give up on this stupid boss. I can get him down to 10-15%, but he healed himself, Soul Siphoned, and Hailfired in one turn. You cant survive that, and both FV and Rem just dont do enough damage for me as finishers because theyre not geared at their best.

I dont have Fixed Dice. Im not kidding when I say theyre not fully geared; Rem only had 610 Mag, and FV has about as much strength. The annoying part is that if I could just survive Eternal Torment and Hailfire, Id be fine, but that one-shots me. Im using

Zarg: Rotation of Archadian Light->Bastion->Free turn for Rejuvination most times
WoL: Break->Light is With Us->Free turn
Tilith: Stat break protection and healing, nothing else
Orlandeau: MP drain and chaining
Rem/FV: MP drain, Pod defensive buff, and finisher near the end
Friend Orlandeau/DV: MP drain, chaining, and if DV dark elemental protection

What I run into is when I get below 40%, I cant cover all my needs. I need stat buffs and confusion protection from Zarg. I need healing from Tilith. If I let Orlandeaus or my finisher MP drain, I risk getting Eternal Torment->Hailfire killing me. Up until that point, I can handle the fight.

If you have Orlandeau for a chainer, I wouldnt use an Orlandeau copy for a friend, Id only take a DV. If the friend has higher Atk than your Orlandeau hell draw in and be healed by the every turn attack. DV is an outstanding unit for than fight because he does so much, even if youre not using him to chain.

I can set mine up if youd like. Confuse immunity and 100% fire resist.

Main reason I took Orlandeau was no DV popped up on my list. I almost think I should take my own dupe Orlandeau and ask someone for a finisher instead. I also may need to look at buffing my fire resistance more than I have been, and swapping out for confuse immunity equipment instead of usinf Zarg for it. Thatll let me use him for more things, or swap him out entitely.

If you have your own dupe Orlandeau, DV can be used as a pure support unit (thats what I did). I could set him up with Lakshmi for confuse resist, then you can either use him for MP drain, mitigation, or a party 70% Dark resist. He can also be an emergency breaker if needed.

Much appreciated, though Im about to have to shut my phone off for a flight, so itll be a while. However, I think were failing to address my issue: Hailfire. Nothing weve discussed helps me survive that, as Eternal Torment and Soul Siphon dont lock it out, elemental protection gets nerfed thanks to Eternal Torment, and if I cant burst him down, Im not likely to survive long enough to not get hit by it.

Im realizing a good chunk is equipment, so would it be better to spread the elemental protection evenly, or stack it up? I vaguely recall reading something about it being party-wide averages, so Im not sure if it matters, but I want to make sure. Never geared well for elemental protection in the past.

Yes, but draining MP doesnt do much good when he heals himself for 10% MP at the start of his turn. Im considering the reset, but doesnt Gumi come down pretty harshly on that?

Ill give it another shot tonight, and see what happens now that Im heavily geared for fire resistance. Maybe thatll make the difference.

I havent heard of them banning anyone for that yet, in RNG heavy fights like this (at least 90 energy to even start it) Im guessing most people have to do that.

Yeah, I think so. Someone on the ffbe board said that you need to do it while his turn is still up or it wont count, so Im guessing you have to watch the flow of the turn and reset if things start looking bad, not positive though.

Yup, Fire resistance wasnt the problem. Missed my chance to reset and got blasted after a Soul Siphon->Hailfire. Even geared up it still wipes me out.

Are you talking her MP consumption? Yeah, my only plan is to either run her with Zarg for that sweet 50% MP recover. Or use Rem, Re-Raise on turns shes not Dagger Boomeranging with GL Sakura chains.

Course Im probably screwed because I only have one, and I doubt shes going to be a popular friend unit. But shes new and shiny, so Im still happy to have her.

I want more off banners, best chance Ill have at getting Wilhelm! The only unit Im going all in for (barring some amazing global exclusive) before the step ups is CG Sakura, and shell hopefully remain a single rainbow, so thats 1% odds, a lot better than 1/200 assuming she arrives after the rate up and Gumi doesnt Gumi it.

For the physicals, you need an AoE tank with 1 of 2 things(Or both, if you want and can):

-100% evasion
- >8k hp and 400+def.
Also, keep your mitigation and atk/mag debuffs up at all times.

did you get 9S?
if so, Attack Break + P Shield from his TMR will make it easy for your team. if that's still not enough somehow, WoL's Light is With Us will make him easily tank it.
the whole 8K + 400 DEF WoL isn't including P Shield. with it, only half his HP will be gone in that setup.

My WoL was able to survive the battle with a cycle if Arms Eraser->Light is With Us->Free turn. That was his full rotation the entite time in every attempt. If you have Pod, that will greatly help his survivability, and if he has Mechanical Heart equipped hell usually heal most of the damage.

Getting to that is the easy part. The hard part is surviving the last 40% long enough to not get hit with a fully powered Hailfire. After he uses Soul Siphon or Eternal Torment, theres a good chance hell use Hailfire, and if he has enough MP it can easily one-shot your party. I saw you had Zarg, who was a big MVP for me, and Orlandeau who lets you bring a Dark Veritas as a partner. Who are you using for healing/MP battery? Zarg can kind of do the latter, but youll need MP recovery scrolls to heal the entire party.

For your last member, anything that can drain MP is good. I used FV, intending to use him as a finisher, but he wound up always using Pods damage mitigation or draining MP in the last stage of the fight. Orlandeau and DV were my only source of damage. And I did wind up resetting twice because the RNG was just awful, and it made the last stage actually survivable. But in the last stage you always need to drain his MP, otherwise he absolutely will kill you.

All the guides for Castle Nightmare suggest having an Illusionist Nichol and units with lots of Evasion gear. I have neither, so what are my options?

1) a tank.
2) two DW DPS units that can chain, preferably with Holy weapons. or Water, i guess. if you've Tidus you've got it in the bag. put them both on Odin. myself, i used A2 and a friend A2.
3) if you got 9S and his TMR, use the TMR's P Shield for it. this makes the fight pretty easy, especially in its current nerfed version where he's weaker.
4) MP healer. Tilith, Ace, technically Charlotte even. just some way of MP restoration, just in case.
5) buffer, as usual.
6) someone to break the attack.

also be sure to have someone on Lakshmi or however her name is spelled, though you probably will for the Esper rewards. when you get near 60%, buff confusion resist for everyone. not necessary if you've got Zarg since his buff gives immunity to confusion. he's MVP in the fight if you've got him.

turn 1: buff team, Soleil, Tilith, and Zarg are prob the most common for this. both DPS use Lance and drain the MP. attack break is used, WoL or 9S both work. if only 5 people, last one should P Shield/whatever damage protection you've got.

turn 2: heal up, keep track, and steadily beat him down to 60%, getting your espers off along the way.

when he gets near 60%: make sure he had 0 MP, you'll know because his magic was doing 1 damage. make sure your buffs are new in the cycle, make sure you've got confusion immunity, and make sure the break is new as well. then punch a hole through him. if he doesn't die that turn, make sure your MP battery heals the team and do it again the next one.

bear in mind, a lot of the guides had the unnerfed skeleton king to deal with too, where he had a stronger imperial, stronger breaks, and 100 more attack. even then i still beat him. with a 6 man team to make it easy mind you, though i didn't run any risk of wiping. gonna do it with 5 tonight.

but okay, just did the fight, 5 man, with ease.

WoL/Zarg/Ace w/Pod 153/A2/friend A2

Soleil or Tilith are easy replacements for Zarg.
Ace is easily replaced with most things, he basically just used Pod 153 moves for 2 turns, Light Imperial (Tri Beam), and MP healed the party.

only necessary parts of that fight were WoL having Mechanical Heart and Pod 153. with both of those the rest is as was posted above:

turn 1 - break, buff, p shield, lance, lance.
turn 2 - i didn't even need to heal much. he had 0 MP, spells did 1 damage a hit. physical attacks hurt a bit but it wasn't much. 120: Repair (another Pod 153 move) was used anyway. actions done: Light is With Us, didn't matter, 120: Repair, attacked. i already beat him earlier so i don't need to Esper but if you did, this is where you're going to rack up esper stuff.

eventually, once he neared 60%:

- party was buffed
- confusion immunity on it (built into Zarg's, if Tilith or Soleil, do it separately)
- attack break
- everyone's MP is good
- both A2 are with Berserk LB on 'em.

wasn't enough to ORKO him so he MP drained the party. Ace + Zarg fixed the team up and then the dual A2 proceeded to win. didn't break a sweat this time. while A2 is pretty great, she's not necessary there, you could probably do it with enhanced Firion, Agrias (w/friend Orlandeau for maximum chaining potential), or a bunch of other 4* and 5* units just fine.
