I fiddled with some stuff and got him to 422, which allows him to survive wailing swipe, but Im having other issues now. Does double Lance not fully drain his MP anymore, because Im still taking 1000+ damage from magic attacks.

This honestly doesnt feel worth the trouble for a couple tickets, Ive already wasted 30 keys on this stupid fight.

I had to use three drainers to get his MP down on the first turn, but I believe he only has a single target spell over 80%, so you can revive and heal up. Once you get him fullh drained, you can survive with WoL tanking down to 60%, and after that you constantly need a drainer. As long as your drainer is strong enough, you should be able to get away with just one, but its still an RNG crapshoot after 40%.

Are you going for the esper summons as well? I made sure to stay above 60% for that, made surviving much easier, but it also means a lot of work could go down the drain if RNG screwed me.

I used DV with a little over 900 atk as my drainer, and he was able to keep the boss fully drained every turn. When he need to re-apply confuse protection to the party I had my TT dualcast Osmose and that seemed to do the trick (I wasn't dying at least).

Min-max people that want that one important stat high enough maybe? Ive also read that some people are putting him as a tank esper because of how much he boosts all stats, which is more important for a tank or even healer.

no damage reduction. P Shield reduces physical damage by 40%, which makes it super easy to deal with. if you have Pod 153, put it on Ayaka. i'd also consider just plain getting a better buffer. you don't need to heal that much, enhanced Soleil or Zarg are both better than Ayaka for this.

also keep in mind that WoL's break is stronger than orlandeau's, 45% to 40%. if you aren't using enhanced Soleil or Zarg and sticking with Ayaka, use his break turn 1, 5% for this purpose is a big deal. Fryevia is 50% FYI, and she has another MP absorption, if you have her.

as for Lance, are both A2 with holy weapons? she's got innate DW, mine has shy of 1000 ATK, friend had 1100, both easily drained him to 0. bear in mind, Zarg's buffs are 60% so maybe that's the difference with me.

voltch - two A2 with holy weapons and the Berserk LB activated should be able to do the job in 2 rounds from 65%~, especially with a 50% Imperial. 2B's the weird one there. and if Orlandeau's the friend, friend A2 > friend Orlandeau.

if orlandeau is yours, i'd just chain him with a friend. don't know what a triple chain with enhanced agrias would be but chaining takes priority over unit. any Pod 153? because two of those skills are very useful - one for healing, one for damage reduction.

In my case, its because I have a request up for Nightmare DV. Giving him Ifrit for the extra 50% fire resist is a lot more useful than giving him an extra 10 or so points to Atk.

If I dont have any open requests and am just sharing my highest Atk/Mag unit then Ill use Bahamut, but I tend to give my companion unit something thats useful to people on my list, not just something to show off how high I can get a units stats.

...actually, if people don't have 9S or Pod 153, i can buff up and put Zarg or Ace with it there. with the people here, DPS is probably not the initial issue, survival is.

Ace - MP healing, Tri-Beam for 75% Light Imperial, Pod 153 stuff, about 900 MAG.
Zarg - HP + MP healing for one guy, 50% Light Imperial, can use 3/4 of the Pod 153 stuff well (P Shield, 120: Repair, DW Light damage for chaining), 60% buffs with confusion immunity, 700-800 ATK.

the latter is a great unit for this.

If you're not talking about 5-man, my stuff was
WoL/Tillith/Luneth/Rikku/Fry/zero's Fry
(Note that it's been a few days, so I might have forgotten a few bits)

Key stats:

WoL had 8.2+ HP and 400+Def. Also had Hero's Shield, mech. Heart and Titan.

Luneth had 1k atk for drain

Everyone else had at least 4k HP and confusion resist. Someone had Diabolos and Ifrit for dark/fire resist, Lakshmi for mission.

If you're not blasting him at 40%, you need a MP battery, preferably through straight heals rather than regen.

You need physical and element mitigation; Rikku does it best, but I can see Zarg, Marie, 9s, EV or a pod user working out.(at least one physical and one elemental)

WoL did a cycle of Break/Light/free action(can be supplemented by a iNichol/tank or 100% evade combo for tank and breakers like Tim or 9s- the more break amount the better)
Tillith got the break resist up for the first few turns then just played healer/mana battery
Rikku always tried to keep Hyper Null-All up at all times, LB if possible.
Luneth either finished a FFB chain or drained with Lance
Ice ladies either drained or did FFB chains.

The drain pattern after 40% was(until the mag damage hit 1):
If soul siphon, drain with luneth or hold until next drain
If Torment, drain with double Fry
If both, drain with Luneth and Both frys.

First turn can be rough- get as many buff up as possible to mitigate the AoE while WoL breaks , then have WoL cast Light is With us and you're good physically as long as you keep your buffs up

Drain his MP until the mag damage hits 1.

Normal atks and the occational capped FFB chain get the summons up and done before 60%.

After 60%, WoL can proc Warrior's pride to help with MP but still not too bad.

After 40% is when things get hairy-
...if you're just blasting him, do it at 41%.
Otherwise...
-keep all buffs up at all times: he can and will kill you dead if you don't
-if he does only one drain on a turn, you can risk just going for damage if you have Rikku's reraise up or you feel confident in your team; two necessitates MP drain, however. Make sure you're out damaging his heals in the end in between drains- you want to make this end as quick as possible while being able to tank the next turn if need be.
-Speaking of which, you need to be able to beat over 1.5 mil once every few turns; in one turn preferably if he gets torment happy.

I took a risk in the last 2 turns and rushed him since I knew I could finish- was able to tank the damage and end it the turn after.

I assume with 5 man, you could drop the Luneth finisher if your chainers are up to it.

Bahamut get! Climbing that peak with four 5* max units is a pain! Especially doing it twice because I forgot my Rat Tail the first time. But hes now my priority for leveling, even if it leaves my other espers behind a bit.

I beat Nightmare with Wang's A2, my A2 (neither over 1000 Attack, Wang's is better than mine), Ayaka with Pod 153, Rikku, and Warrior of Light.

I got all rewards except the MAG +30% for summoning both Lakshmi and Titan. I wasn't getting enough evocation orbs, so I got Lakshmi off, but I couldn't get more without causing serious MP issues or possibly wiping all together since it was a pretty delicate balance of maneuvers.

I could probably easily get the last reward since I would go in again with 6 and be able to use White Magic, but wondering if it is even worth it. I don't have the ability to really run more than 2 mage sets anyways, one of which is on my Ace and the other on my Fryevia. I don't have enough TMRs to really justify a third mage as any mage I try to gear next is going to probably have 400ish Magic at most.

I'll probably try again later in the week after I think on it.

I just don't know what to do when he drains all my MP, do I spam lancer or keep attacking.

Haven't been able to space out my attacks well enough either, I'll often try to get to 60% to get ready to unload, but then leave him with like 58% and it screws me over big time.
