Even assuming they're being completely reasonable, ignoring the difficulty in conveying that there is in fact a medical emergency occurring to an angry rabble would be a mistake. Just getting people to coordinate a move out of the way assuming 100% cooperation is likely going to cost a few minutes.

I think the person's age in question is going to be really key to the culpability of this.

That said, protesters being allowed to block intersections and roads is completely crap. For all I know, that dude was going to pick up his 60 year old wife that just found out she was gonna die in 3 months and was waiting outside for him.

Uh they were mad because the car was driving into the crowd. They weren't attacking random cars. If the dude said medical emergency please get out of the way it would have gotten done. Idk what is hard to understand about that. Yeah it would have taken time, but the cops probably take the person and turn on their lights and get the folks to the hospital fairly quickly. The protestors were cooperating with the cops to move out of the way without violence or the police needing to use the heavier methods you see employed with groups that don't comply. Idk why these people are being assumed to be unreasonable and violent.

Like honestly, I don't even get the point of these kind of protests. They seem self defeating and actively driving people away from your cause more than anything.

That and if you just did something wacky with that intersection by the GOP guy's office that doesn't outright block the intersection you'd get just as many eyes on what you're doing-- perhaps more, as the Police would not have grounds to remove you so you'd be able to maintain presence in the intersection that much longer.

Like legit peaceful protests do work. One of the better ones I've seen that is like this but not actually this was a massive mob of people just marching across town on foot. Crowded the hell out of the sidewalk to be sure and probably caused a bit of traffic congestion, but traffic was still more or less able to move normally cause there wasn't outright blockage of roads except when the mob had to cross one. And the coordinated mass of people got a lot of eyeballs on it-- was covered by the local news in Albuquerque because it was so weird to see that many people moving like a tidal wave.

But I mean there are other things you can do too. Like coordinating a flash mob to just start dancing in the area. Wacky beats disruptive every time. Ultimately getting eyes on your cause with a protest is priority one, but doing it in a way that doesn't get people who would normally support your cause pissed at you should be priority two. Feel like that nuance has been lost with a lot of protests these days, with people just using it as an excuse to be dicks moreso than to try and change things.

Why? A slow moving car is incredibly easy to avoid. Just get out of the way.

The only reason to be upset is if you feel that you're more entitled to physical space in the road than motorists are. Which is the exact opposite of reality.

To be clear despite largely arguing the protesters being stupid and thinking it's stretching to cause a protest of this sort peaceful (kinda feels like a weasel exploiting a loophole about physical contact more than actually being peaceful by the letter), I think the guy was equally stupid here. I'm only putting more focus on the protesters because that seems to be the more debated point.

My sister works in Philadelphia and after working 12 hour shifts, she has to deal with these assholes keeping her from going home.
