Meaning, do you have enough saved to live for a while with no income? I have a bit saved up, but I'd have to have a paycheck in at least 90 days or I'd be fucked

I'm a pretty thrifty guy. When I see people live by the edge of their pay check with no savings yet are extravagant with their spending it confuses me.

This is non coincidentally how I also manage my money and items in games. I'm that guy who doesn't buy anything unless absolutely necessary and won't use items if I can help it, and don't throw things away just in case.

I change jobs and cities every 13 weeks or so. I also have about 100k saved up. I would say I'd have no issue if I lost my job. If I lost my license, however, that would be a bigger issue.

Without dipping into investments, I could get by for a year or so. Investments would be a few more years on top of that, although I'd also hit some penalties for taking some of the money out early.

That's because they expect the government to bail them out.

I'd argue that inherently having no income means being financially insecure (unless your savings last your life expectancy).

Financial security is having enough money to live. Pretty much everyone has that if they are willing to eat ramen instead of lobster.

Even if you spent 1 dollar a day, it'd still be $12775 in 35 years.

There are ways to get food without necessarily having to spend the money yourself. And you know what I mean. The term financial security is loaded. Most people fret about whether they are "financially secure" when they are really thinking about whether they will be financially comfortable. I think a lot of people get stuck in shitty jobs that don't fulfill them because they are so terrified of what may happen if they leave, when the worst that might happen is they lose their Keurig coffee maker that's giving them heart palpitations anyway

If i liquidated my portfolio and sold my place and moved to somewhere cheaper, I'd probably be able to retire. Wouldn't be fun, but I could (and I'm only in my mid 30s, so I think it's okay). Instant ramens are actually one of my guilty pleasures, so it would give me an excuse.

you'd get tired of ramen eventually. i've had to live that lifestyle before. well I was alternating between it and totino's pizzas.
