They teach us that it's a powerful country, like Russia and China, but at the end of the day it's just another country to learn about. They tell us history from all over the world, then they let us form our own opinion

You didn't learn about the American Revolution? Maybe the Civil War as well?

Hell, I don't think I ever officially learned about the Wild West in school. There wasn't a whole lot to cover aside from maybe the California gold rush.

No.

You have to realise that most countries put a lot of emphasis on their own history, and the history of their continent.

With that in mind, we've got a whole lot to cover, so American history isn't seen as too big a deal.

Right, but I'm confused as to why the Wild West was covered when it barely has any historical relevance within our own country. Usually other countries' histories are covered when they present something relevant to that country's history and set the backdrop for those motivations.

That's not really what happened. A war against insurgency is lost when the controlling power deems it too big of a waste of resources to continue, and cuts their losses. We didn't overpower them, it's more like we made ourselves a big enough nuisance. I'm sure you could wrestle a raccoon who steals your bag of Doritos, but why bother? You'll get clawed up and possibly get rabies, all over a buck-twenty-nine bag of chips.

Honestly, I'd imagine it's because at some point a politician who has never studied history was on a panel that was building the syllabus, and thought it was the most interesting or relevant thing for teenagers to learn about in American history

Regardless of whether or not stopping an insurgency in the colonies would be a nuisance, this wasnt just that kind of war. There were genuine large scale battles on land and sea and the British did suffer from major losses, akin to any major war they had been a part of to that day. Of course what I said was an oversimplification, as that was pretty much only the case during the opening year or so during the war. But come the end, the Colonies had a legitimate armed forces backed up by France, the other world power.

Im not saying America left Great Britain in shambles like Nazi Germany to France or anything crazy like that, Im just saying the British didnt say fuck it! Not worth it! after getting a few scratches, more like after losing a couple of fingers or a hand.

It's just one war out of hundreds of major wars we've had over the millennia.
We've been invaded, completely taken over and restructured a dozen times or more in just the past 2 thousand years.
I know it's kinda a big deal to the U.S be a use they don't shut up about it, but no one else cares.

Why would they want to stop them twice? Britain was already giving America their demands the second time before they even knew the war was happening.

In history, you'll hear about Pax Americana a lot. Like Pax Romana. Which implies that America is the most dominant world power right now.

If anybody tries to make an argument that China or Russia is currently more powerful than America...yeah, sure.

Slavery was just a "fact of the time" that happened in the whole world

Vietnam wasn't a loss. We just decided to pull out since we couldn't do the good we wanted to do.

It all depends on your definition of a loss.

We went in trying to prevent a communist takeover of Vietnam and could not accomplish that, and fucked off back home. But we also didn't lose anything we didn't already not have. It was a no-gain scenario.

It was a loss in the sense that the objective we wanted to achieve wasn't reasonably attainable anymore, due to the Viet cong wearing down public opinion back home, and the heavy losses they inflicted on us. Had it been without public support, we would've won, but they ultimately decide where we go.
