There was a video of her trying to work out the lyrics for the Gorgeous intro that took place over a few days. It was a pretty interesting watch.

Y'all know this is gonna be the worst album she's ever put out right

This new one is listenable but everything she's put out has ranged from shit to painfully mediocre

Like holy shit the delivery in the spoken parts is so clunky

I'm not necessarily saying it won't be popular. I'm saying this is literally the worst material she's ever put out leading up to an album

Her producer is Max Martin, of Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears fame. Dude is a musical genius, and he is pretty much the reason the 90s pop era was the 90s pop era.

He does have a bad pattern though. He grabs a new/new-ish artist and turns them into an amazing juggernaut, he gives them a unique, fresh, catchy style (think of Britney Spear's Baby one More time, Katy Perry's I kissed a girl), but once he's put that artist on the top and he reaches his pinnacle of creativity and awesomeness with a particular album he descends into what I call his 'generic singer female' routine.

Take a listen to Britney's post-head shave music, it is a series of backup singers carrying the entire song, drowning the singer's voice and at one point you might think you yourself 'when is Britney/whoever actually going to start singing?'. This is usually accompained by music videos with really bad special effects (think of Britney kicking a chain in stronger, then the chair slides very artificially and somehow she jumps on top of the chair and dances stripper style while the chair is still sliding, the concept is cool but the effect looked like shit).

This is the case of swift's newest album. That silly 'well I got stronger, I got harder (tehehehe) in the brink of timeeeeeee, I bla bla bla I do it all the tiimmeee' bridge could be in many songs of Britney's post-downfall era. Her 'rap' is sad and feels too forced (first of all, swift rapping? second of all, since when does Ms. Alt-Right Country Bumpkin pronounce words like 'bet-tah' and 'fore-vah' like rappers do?!) and her video where she picks up 2 motorcycles has the same shitty special effects that early 2000s Britney videos had.

I think Max Martin is done with her now, and he will move to the next and newest hot young girl in 1 or 2 more albums. Hopefully his next diva doesn't turn out to be an alt-righter obsessed with ex boyfriends.

Have you heard her new 'rap'? It's pathetic.

At least never ever had that catchy 'u go talk to my friend talk to your friends talk to meeee' bridge, I thought it was cute.

Red is one of my favorite albums.

but also so is Speak Now and Fearless >_>

All albums before 1989 were from her previous producer, who was very country-oriented. Red was the guy's effort to be as pop-like as possible, but they needed to go even more pop for the next album.

So Swift and her team listened to the record material and hated it so they decided to tap Max Martin for 1989, which is an amazing album.

I don't think she can reproduce red now that she works with a different guy

She was still writing most of her own stuff up until Red tho. She's still an incredibly talented songwriter. My beef with 1989 and now this is that she's moving away from her own writing and using others. That's not what drew me to her in the first place. I loved that each of her songs felt like I was learning something about her. Now it's just another pop song written and produced by like 12 people. I don't feel the connection. Red was kinda lighting in a bottle in that it was still primarily her doing the writing with some contributions here and there, so her writing with some more pop-oriented production turned out really well.

I made a post about it in the other swift thread (gee! CE loves swift I guess). She jumped into the feminist bandwagon and she was getting very political and stuff.

Then the past election season came up and so did the rumors about her being alt-right. She was suddenly 'above politics', she backpedalled from the feminism stuff, she stopped being seen with Dunham and now she literally wears pseudo S&M attires.

If you think about it, she is one of the only pop stars of her stature that refuse to play in any non-white or non-eastern-asia countries, she only dates white guys, she had a song where she threatened to smear an ex by saying he's gay, she is always singing about blue eyes, and she lost her shit after watching that video where she seemed to be sharing a bed with Kanye.

Yeah, her newest album could have easily been a britney album, especially from her decline era. It has that 12 producer feel to it too.

I do think 1989 was her best album, it was still very her, and it had this gimmick about having songs that sounded like straight out of the 80s, down to the velvety synthethizer sounds.

You should check out the Making a Song for Gorgeous. She's gonna be doing a behind the scenes series for several songs on this next album. I think people underestimate how much she's still involved in her albums. I don't really think Red and 1989 were drastically different in terms of production. Speak Now was the one she did all by herself.

Pretty sure she referenced Dunham recently in one of her songs or clips. Hell I think Dunham's boyfriend worked on the album.

Unfortunately no. The track that was chosen for the lead single reenforced her image as the bubblegum 'Call Me Maybe' type when that wasn't what the album was at all. It is a love letter to 80s pop, and a goddamn amazing one at that.

I am not that fond of swift, but I am very fond of 1989. I am, however, very into the whole story of how Max Martin has shaped the pop music industry, and she is part of that narrative.

Dude had to do with BSB, N'sync, Britney, Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne and Christina Aguilera... it's crazy!
