From Calvin and Hobbes, peeing on stuff.

Like... why? I don't remember Calvin being intentionally spiteful, he was just a dumb kid. It's like those people in the mid-2000s who had those pics of Spongebob and Mickey Mouse and whatever with grills and hoodies.

These things

Reminds me of how dark those times used to be

Calvin was often intentionally spiteful. Someone isn't very learned on the subject of Calvin and Hobbes.

You're thinking about it from the wrong perspective. Put it this way: would a non-trashy person have a decal of Calvin peeing on something?

I think it's less about expressing one's love of Calvin and Hobbes and more they stole art from the comic and hoped nobody would notice.

Who's your favorite character from "Bend It Like Beckham"? And you can't say Beckham.

so the Calvin peeing on things goes back more than 20 years.

Watterson was completely against having his comic strips used without permission, and especially opposed to unlicensed merchandise. He licensed his characters for very few things. He in no way licensed Calvin peeing.

Yet it blew up. Initially the biggest thing it was used for was Calvin peeing on NASCAR driver numbers. Then it moved on to vehicle make logos. Political affiliations. People. Anything people disliked, you could find someone to make decals of Calvin peeing on it.

The comic publisher (United Press Syndicate) went after people using the image that way. there was a case in the mid '90s of a woman being charged with public indecency for wearing a Calvin peeing shirt (she went to jail). people with decals were being ticketed. People really fought back against it then. That was also around the time South Park became a thing, and what was publicly decent changed a lot in a short time.

There's even things like a female version of Calvin squatting and urinating (or pooping). Often on vehicle brand logos.

That's an onion article from 2000, back whe The Onion was printed and delivered :P

Anyway they have always been trash magnets and I'm surprised the decals are still around.
