In 2015, while Moore was serving on the Alabama Supreme Court, he considered the case of Eric Lemont Higdon, a 17-year-old, who was convicted of raping a 12-year-old at a daycare center. Higdon was found guilty under a sodomy statute that applied specifically to minors, as well another statute prohibiting rape. The second conviction was overturned by an appeals court and sent to the state supreme court for review.

Eight justices found that the 12-year-olds fear of harm from a much older and larger individual was enough to establish implied threat of serious physical injury and reinstated Higdons conviction. Moore was the only dissent, saying that there was no evidence in this case of an implied threat of serious physical injury. Moore oddly argued that the courts interpretation opened the door to a 10-year-old being found guilty of raping an 8-year-old.

It was really only done to show how many conservatives react to scandals. They're on their high horse when a leftist has done something they find reprehensible, but they try to turn the conversation in another direction or ignore it (or make excuses for it) when it's one of their own.

Every one of those cases is different really, as are all sexual related assault crimes. I wasn't really looking to draw any sort of parallels between anyone. It's all pretty disgusting in my book. Moore, if he did the things he's accused of, committed statutory rape. A 14 year old girl cannot consent to sex legally. You can argue until you're red in the face about the "good old days" of sexing up underdeveloped girls but the fact is that under the law, the man is guilty of a felony under Alabama law if this is true.

2/3 of senators can expel a member for literally any reason. Hasn't happened since the civil war though (but it was threatened in modern times, but the senator resigned before the vote).

That's probably the best possible solution for the Republican Party at this point.

He withdraws and it becomes basically an "electing whoever the Governor appoints" election and then they do this whole process over again.

Like its not ideal, but its better than being stuck with Senator Moore.

I read that while it's impossible to have his name removed from the ballot, if the GOP were to withdraw their nomination, it would mean that any vote cast for him under the Republican line would be invalid (Write-in votes would still count.)

So no, there's another way out.

Accuracy matters. It is important that the correct terms for stuff are used with stuff like this. Using the wrong terms is something people have done in the past deliberately to slander people - it's important not to go down that road. Calling him a paedophile if the definition of paedophile excludes his activities is literally fake news. It's inaccurate. Being right is important. It's not a defence - it's a more accurate attack!

Now yes, this guy should be condemned, and everyone is doing that (except Ulti, obviously). Rock is too. But Rock shouldn't be put in the category of "almost defending it" or whatever. It shouldn't "come off" that way. He went out of his way to not come off that way in his posts.

I doubt it was his first thought, either, even if it was the same post.
