It's pretty fucking backwards in a lot of regards.

They still fax everything.
Work crazy long hours for no reason other than "You can't leave before your boss leaves."
Extremely long commutes.
multi-generational families in a single home are normal.
Students are overworked and stressed out all the time.
Extremely strict censorship that comes and goes on a whim.
99% conviction rate for criminals that go to trial (In America, average conviction rate by charges pressed by detectives is only over 80% even if you count confessions). And police brutality is legal.

A culture that promotes extreme xenophobia and racism towards foreigners is better than American culture? Don't try to claim I'm wrong when their dwindling birth rates and the very high difficulty of becoming an immigrant to that count prove otherwise. You can be someone who lived nearly their entire life in Japan but because you weren't born there you can never own property.

I'm not even American but Japanese has its fair share of issues that are quite fucked up as well. Neither gets to ride the high horse in this scenario.

What material is being covered?

Oral Test on Wednesday goals she wants:

- Go to her office at signed time.
- Knock on the door before entering.
- Say Bow.
- Sit down.
- She will ask something such as "What are you doing this weekend?/What are you having for dinner tonight?/What are you doing after school?" and she wants an answer back as a sentence in Japanese.
- She wants us to treat her as a friend and invite her to do something, using time, location, and asking for approval at that time.
After all of that, I have to leave politely and say

She says it is only less than a 5 minute thing.

The written test on Monday though will be full of verb vocabulary, time words (such as asa/hiru/ban, kyou/ashita, itsu..etc), particle fill-in, dialog reading and answering questions about the dialog, kanji/kanji numbers, and audio recording fill-ins.

The tests usually have a good bit of everything really.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt since I haven't even been to Japan and only lived in Hawaii (I'm the only person among my friends and family who hasn't been to Japan :<), but everyone in my family and all my friends who are Japanese have impeccable manners and etiquette. And according to everyone I just mentioned the residents of Japan also share similar traits.

But the people of Hawaii...Conversing at extreme volumes wherever the hell they want (my neighbors also just reminded me: screaming like buffoons late at night), playing the ukulele (poorly) when people are trying to eat, and rudely bumping people aside without so much as an apology or even acknowledgement that it happened...

But you know, the manners of my friends and family could just be due to having a good upbringing rather than being a cultural thing, while on the flip side, the tons of rude people could have just had bad parents.

Also, the thing at the end of my first statement in parenthesis is supposed to be my trademark :< face, not some weird :<) face.

Probably because they don't want people and big companies buying up all their land and building burger kings and having an 1985 Pontiac firebird on blocks leaking fluids in the ground and stripping them of their culture like what happens here in new York State where we tear down 100+ year old houses and build another fucking chipotle

We shouldn't try to maintain every single crappy old building forever. Some are historic, but many are not. If people want to replace them, then in many cases they should not be restricted from doing so. Also this is a weird complaint when I would guess that Japan is super modernized when it comes to buildings.

Yes and their customer service is so much higher imho compared to the west. Plenty of them go out of their way to help tourists. One time,I was lost trying to find the way to Ikaho Onsen and asked someone outside of her backyard and not only did she point the way,she drive me right to to it! Another time,in Naha,asked for directions at a local police station and not only did they let me use their phone behind their desk,they helped translate a call and they gave me some cookies and a mikan!

First trip was a getting my feet wet and learning how to get around and,2nd trip learned from mistakes and made it even more enjoyable.

Every culture has its pros and cons,it goes with the territory but if you focus more on the good,less to worry about the negatives.
