I wouldn't immediately bash the guy if I saw that photo out of context. He was a comedian and I would have assumed that the photo was staged and that she was in on the joke.

But yeah, the lady wrote that she was legitimately sleeping and had rejected his advances the days before. Sad!

Minnesota has a Democrat governor, so a Dem would just replace Franken. I have nothing to gain politically from this scandal.

I actually quite liked Al Franken as a senator, too. Probably would have voted for him over Trump in 2020 as long as he didn't go too far the the left in the primaries.

The photo seems like a joke that was in very bad taste (he doesn't actually seem to be touching her, but still)

But coupled with the story, and the political climate right now, he's probably done for.

The political ramifications for the senate are minimal anyway: Minnesota has a democratic governor, Mark Dayton, who would appoint Franken's replacement until the 2020 election.

I mean the picture is still kind of fucked up no matter the way you look at it, since who does that to a random person asleep or not? Like the only way I could MAYBE see it not being too bad is if they were super comfortable and knew each other for awhile already and both had a weird sense of humor like that.

Louis CK's was the only one that really mitigated anything lately imo. And that was because he said he apologized to the women years ago before it became a scandal. Franken seems like he's only being contrite because he got caught.

The problem is there's no cost to releasing a statement like that. You don't want to ruin his life if he's genuinely apologetic and improving himself, but there has to be a cost to prove remorse, even if it's small. That's the basic of legal punishment anyways.

I think the only way to do that effectively is to get out in front of it.

If you know youve been a perv in the past, even if you cant recount all the specific instances, admit that BEFORE allegations start coming out if you want to have any credibility at having started the path to personal growth.
