I had 5 hours in a Game which I saved the normal way, but I accidentally went to open a save state at 1 hr from the snes classic menu. I completely lost that 5 hour save

No it sounds like a shitty unintuitive system.

Always get in the habit of saving in the game, then using a savestate after wards >_>

Baby's first emulator.

As long as you didn't save the normal way after you booted the save state, you should be fine. Just power it off and back on.

Save states have always retained all memory, including what would go to the normal save file. But usually that normal save file is not touched except in the normal save menu (zSNES saved whenever the GUI was brought up, so this could cause problems if you loaded a save state.)

Does the "load a save state" option not give you a confirmation option before loading it?

Uh, if you saved in the game itself, can't you obviously just boot the game up and start from where you saved?

On the SNES classic, you save in game or use a save state or both. The save state comes particularly in handy on games that don't allow you to save in game.

However, when you u save in game and a save state. If you use the save state and it's from an earlier progression point than where you were in game, it erases your progress in game. Not a problem if you have multiple save states, but if you don't you're SOL

which game

Star ocean lol. I was at a point where I could not save in game and I was going to make a save state and write over the save state that was there already. I hit the wrong button and loaded the save

That's the first thing I tried. It still remembered the 1 hr save state from the save state I loaded

No it doesn't? Literally just boot the game up. Don't load the save state.

Loading the savestate also rewrites the save game file with the save file at the time of the loadstate, at least on any SNES emulator I've played.

How is that different from any other game that allows you to save and load savefiles?
You loaded an old savefile instead of saving a new one, that is clearly user error.

This. Sorry but youre wrong. Once you load the save state it erases your progress if saved within the game. The SNES classic even warns you about it

I figured I was tbh. I'm just surprised that it actually works that way.

No worries, it also doesnt matter if you have multiple save states, but it was a rookie error on my part during my play through of SMW when I only had an old one had to replay all of Vanilla Dome and the bridges -_-

If I recall correctly, many years ago zSNES fixed this by making it not load the SRAM part of the save state, and only changing it when you actually go to the inn/temple/whatever in-game and saved there.
