The alternative now is what you have now, where the lower class can't really afford it even with the "cheaper rates" and either pay it or get fined because they can't.

I mean just redesigning the health plan and distancing it from health insurance is the actual fix but yeah the individual mandate was the king of gouging the bottom of the totem pole which most people should be against.

The bottom the totem pole was supposed to be covered by medicaid expansion. Which, iirc, it is in states that went through with it. It's not the federal government's fault that some states are explicitly trying to kneecap the law at the expense of the poor.

I mean, it helps healthy poor people who don't need very much healthcare, but repealing the individual mandate fucks over everyone who does need regular healthcare by causing skyrocketing premiums.
