Police have shot a man who was shouting Allahu Akbar at the Spanish French border after he sparked a terror alert.

Armed officers opened fire when the man began screaming in Arabic when the car he was travelling in was stopped at a motorway toll near La Jonquera earlier today. Police had become concerned after they apparently spotted a suspicious object on his waist after searching the female driver, according to reports.

Officers surrounded his car, which also had another passenger, after he got back in and continued to shout at them.They are said to have shot him twice in the leg when he got back out with the unidentified object in his hand.

The bizarre incident continued when the injured man returned to the car throwing his clothes out of the window, according to reports. The suspect has since had an operation at the Doctor Josep Trueta University Hospital, Girona, and did not suffer life threatening injuries.

The incident is not being linked to terror, according to sources. The sources added officers thought the man may have been on drugs at the time.

An investigation is underway and the unidentified man will be interviewed once he is healthy enough.

He wasn't responding to the situation in a proper manner and they were suspicious about him having a weapon.

I'm not sure whose side the law would take in this matter, since he didn't actually have a weapon.

Shooting at the legs is pretty dangerous, you can miss and hit another target, also the legs have pretty dangerous arteries that can cause you to bleed out if nicked, or out right hit.
