For some quests, yeah. One off the top of my head is the quest to get the home in Skingrad. The guy you're suppose to buy it from has a tendency to fall off the bridges in the city and kill himself.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the cache file would often get bloated too, causing bad stuttering, freezes, and outright crashes for the Xbox too.

Leveling system literally doesn't work. Leveling up punishes the player in this game because 1) all other characters level at the same time, 2) they all get perfect attribute level ups, and 3) generic NPCs get better equipment based on level so highwaymen in glass armor can just walk up to you... and ask for 50 coins as though their armor isn't worth thousands.

Characters are ugly, voice acting isn't varied but gets the job done (except elves).

Combat is pretty unsatisfying, it doesn't have the weight it has in Skyrim. One-handed weapons feel like you're twirling a big blade of grass. Magic physics are really bad. Also, magic is totally OP and especially at lower levels you can just cheese the game with certain spells very easily.

Quests are pretty good. The guilds all have really cool questlines, especially Dark Brotherhood and Thieve's guild.

The wilderness feels generic and kind of empty IMO. I hate city design. All cities are locked behind loading zones made out of giant ass stone walls (Imperial City is separated into like SIX loading zones). Also, some of the cities are definitely more interesting, or at least just feel more lively, than others.

Basically I don't think it's very playable without mods.

Be really careful about leveling up or just don't do it. I usually only go to about 10 and stop.
Oblivion gates are cool for about one or two times and then the other fifty you're probably going to want to just sprint through as fast as possible.
The music is awesome, Jeremy Soule is the man.
Most of the quests are leagues and leagues above Skyrim's.
Shivering Isles is a really cool DLC.
Becoming a member of the Mage's Guild lets you make custom spells which is pretty rad.
NPC conversations can be hilarious.
Buy the house in Anvil.
Do the Daedric shrine quests as soon as you're able, they're usually pretty interesting and you can get some amazing items/equipment from them.

Yep

It's harmless to level up occasionally (it only happens if you sleep while being eligible, it's not on demand) and you get better rewards and loot at higher levels but it also makes enemies horribly obnoxious tanks. It's ridiculous.

You really don't have to worry about it, just level whenever. Oblivion's level-scaling is its worst feature by far, but it isn't game breaking unless you go out of your way to make it a problem, and it takes a while for it to get stupid.

It's more that the way leveling up is just dumb and what you get on level up depends on what skills you raised and by how much. So it's possible to play in a way where you don't gain much strength on level up, a problem enemies won't have.

While some enemies do get really tanky at high levels, that's just high levels, and you can just break the game in one of many ways to mitigate that issue when the time comes.

But basically, this is the game where just casting some harmless spells or even RUNNING and jumping a lot can level you up, yet leveling up may also result in much stronger enemies showing up who are like "hello this is my new demonic sword how are you?" "I...can jump better now"

I might as well give you a tip to make shittons of money.

When you get access to spellmaking at the Mage's Guild or by buying Frostcrag Spire DLC, create a spell using Luck + 100 for three seconds. It should be really cheap to cast.

Now, whenever you are about to enter a dungeon, before going in, stop at the door and cast the spell. Enter the door while the spell is still in effect. The loot in the dungeon, because it was loaded while you were extremely lucky, will be great.

A better tip: get the ability to make spells, and make a spell that does Fear, fortify speed and fortify athletics on touch, high as you can, for like, 20~30 seconds.

Name it "Benny Hill"

Use it on enemies you encounter in the wilderness.

(this spell can actually potentially be fatal to what you cast it on)

One of the many things I liked to do, when I was done playing for the day, was put on my 100% chameleon suit, and drop all my crazy OP enchanted weapons with AoE effects and stuff all over a city. Then cast a massive AoE frenzy and just watch people run around, picking my weapons up and going nuts.

Hold up

You can make SPELLS

The way it works is, any effect you "know" either by having a spell, constant passive or ability with that effect, you can use in spellmaking. You choose intensity, duration, AoE (if there is one), delivery method.

There are many interesting things that are hidden in this feature. Like fortify fatigue also somehow fortifies all melee damage (with weakness stacking you can make deer/mudcrabs and such one-shot everything). Reducing an enemy's speed doesn't just reduce their speed, but also their detection ability, allowing you to effectively blind enemies if you make a strong enough drain speed spell. Depleting someone's fatigue paralyses them. Target frost spells with an AoE, so long as frost is the strongest effect so the spell takes on its properties, will be cast as a large mist, the size of the AoE specified; this mist "carries" all other effects put in the spell, allowing uses otherwise impossible, like firing a 100 foot radius mist forward that everything touched by it becomes paralysed, blinded, frenzied, etc. Fortify effects that also have a hostile effect with a particle effect on self will harmlessly last on you the entire duration of the fortify, even if it's something like fortify health 3 points for 2 minutes on self + fire damage for 1 second 3 points on touch. What this means is you can create the visual of being on fire harmlessly, or emanating frost, or making your weapon erupting with destructive energy (via disintegrate weapon).

Oh yeah and with spellmaking and a glitch, you can do the following:

The skull of corruption fires a projectile that summons a hostile clone of the one hit for awhile. If you drop the skull in an interior then leave, the duration won't wear off so long as you don't go in there.

So...Go to some cave you'll never return to, summon something you can paralyse, and cast on it with custom spells to paralyse it and give it 100% spell reflection. Shoot skull at it, now you have a clone of yourself. Quickly drop the skull and flee out. When the clone follows you, cast a max level command humanoid spell on it, and now you have a clone to fight alongside you, who has access to all your created spells.

IIRC there was a way to even use the persuasion minigame on them too to make them non-hostile to you by raising their affinity for you. I forget specifics. It might've involved reducing speed so they can't detect you then charming them so you can talk to them or something.

Creating spells is also the best way to level up your magical skills. Make a spell that summons the weakest minion, make it the minimum duration and spam it to level Conjuration to full in no time. This can be done for every skill but some are harder than others. Restoration takes longer to level than other magic schools for example.

You can also break the game a couple ways.

1) Get 5 pieces of unenchanted gear and enchant each piece to give 20% chameleon. You are now invisible to everyone but can attack and act without it breaking since it's an enchantment and not a spell.

2) Harder to do but you can get 3 specific pieces of gear that can give you damage reflection 100%. Enemies that hit you with physical attacks will have their damage reflected onto themselves. Gather up a dozen enemies, stand still, and watch as they kill themselves by attacking you.

It's not something you can do overnight, but eventually yes, you will become a god. No mods required, just tenacity, a willingness to experiment (or read the notes of someone who did), and a lot of magicka.

Basically what I did, is got way into spellmaking, and had this really cool organic experience where I started off weak, but through study and experimentation eventually commanded such magical force of basically the whole universe, I became like a shounen anime character who is just unstoppable and intentionally weakens themselves or strengthens enemies (via custom spells) to make fights more fun. I also made a spell sequence of magicka buffs and other things to work like an incantation that before they wore off would give me enough total magicka to cast an especially extra special high cost spell I can't normally use.

Best experience with magic I'll ever have in an RPG.

If you level up enough, you'll end up with 100 full sets of Daedric armor. Oblivion gates are a chore. The scenery doesn't vary much from city to city, so I hope you like generic medieval fantasy. The best parts of the entire game are the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild. Oh, and the characters all look like ass. Everything has a weird shiny/glowing look to it.
