Almost every brand is crap if you go super cheap. If you're just going to use if for notes etc then it really doesn't matter.
IMHO, spend as close to $800-1k to make sure it's at least decent build quality and has an i5 if you want it to still be useful in a few years. If you don't care, go as cheap as you like and buy another later. Try to find one that's a reputable brand but significantly marked down, now is a good time of year to do it otherwise wait until the new year/stocktake sales. --- Mod me? You don't even know me! ... If you're not going to be gaming on it and only web surfing and using word and such you don't need to spend anymore than $300 maximum.

Just get a tablet if you're not using a laptop for gaming or work. Like seriously what's the damn point in buying a bulky piece of shit that breaks instantly for 300$ when almost half of that cost literally went to pay for windows 10 alone.
