You are twice as likely to die on the job as an electrician just doing your regular job activities than a high risk SWAT/HRT agent is.

Most electricians aren't extremely high up and handling high voltage, linemen that work on high tension lines are a fairly specialized field.

Yep. I don't think police have ever been in the top ten deadliest jobs in the us, even when the heritage foundation takes it by state - same with the military.

I believe we have the NFL and by extension the media to thank for the current culture we have in America in relation to this topic.

Yeah, because in deadly circumstances cops are usually better at killing than the civilian is.

That's like saying the Taliban is more at risk of death than the Green Berets. Obviously that's going to be the case. That doesn't mean being a Green Beret is not a deadly job.

Annoying carpenters and plumbers by wanting the boxes moved all the damned time.

guess when I worked construction they must of had a decent crew. very few times they asked anyone including us for shit. think one time he asked me to cut something for him and it took like 20 seconds out of my day to do it so no big deal. and one guy on that crew looked stoned as fuck everytime I saw him. I think he just looked like that though.

The basis is that being a police officer is no longer on the top 10 list of most dangerous jobs, they're now 12th. The 10th place position is now electricians and their mortality rate is double that of cops.

I talked with a guy who worked construction and talked about how the electricians, to tell if a wire was live, they would just reach out and touch it. They had sensors and everything that could easily check, but they just tapped it to see.

unfortunately in the construction industry they expect you to get the job done as quickly as possible so people will do whatever saves them a minute. plus the industry is filled with the "menly men" types who probably think you ain't got no balls if you can't handle a little pain. like when I shot myself with a nail gun I was expected to keep working, but better not get blood on anything. thank god it was a thin nail and went through flesh. though I could have had a unique body piercing had I had any body jewelry handy.

to be fair I really didn't have a problem getting right back to work. it barely hurt more than the second it happened in. as said I was fortunate in that it was nothing more than a 1 inch and a half trim nail and it just went through the fleshy part of a finger. had it been one of the siding nails we used i'd probably would have been done. if it hadn't been for my boss being one of those who pushed you to get shit done super quick, I would have been one of those idiots that wanted to stop and take a picture before doing anything about it.

come to think of it I got lucky many times in that job. lost count of how many nails I stepped on but none ever actually penetrated my foot. the job sites would almost always be littered with these nails that had plastic rings around them which would allow them to sit point up easily.

Most electricians aren't extremely high up and handling high voltage, linemen that work on high tension lines are a fairly specialized field.

Then what's the cause of death for electricians?

Static can literally kill you. And it's common for guys to not actually verify that what they're working on isn't hot.

Plus, if you're working in an older building, switches might be marked wrong.

So is tc being misleading when comparing job safety of a police officer to that of an electrician?

I'm surprised meat factory worker isn't on the list but truck driver is.

I'm not accusing you of spreading false information just wondering how accurate it is to say police is a relatively safe job.

I can see truck driver. they stay on the road for long periods of time in a vehicle thats a bit harder to drive than a normal car. so accidents happen.

my brother doesn't drive big rigs but his last job he drove a moving truck, and in just like 2 years hes had 3 or 4 trucks break down on him in the middle of the road, hes had a couple of tires blow out while he was driving. company didn't really keep their shit maintained.

tbh, that kind of behavior is common in a lot of fields which makes things unnecessarily dangerous.

yeah I did cement fiber siding and we did a bunch of shit we where not supposed to for safety reasons just because the "safe" way took too long for how much time the company was giving us to get a job done.

companies really need to learn to give the workers more time on a job if they really want us doing things safely

If this list is true I feel like proportionally, people make police officer out to be a much more dangerous job than it is. I know multiple people who are / were truck drivers, roofers, electricians, garbage men, and other occupations that are listed above police officer on that list. None of them ever talked about their jobs like they were specifically dangerous. However, I had one uncle who was a police officer, and everyone would always mention how worried they were for him, how he was always in danger, etc.
