I wanted to pick up the DS one (Wild World) to try it out and want to know how much it would run me online to buy a new copy. Used is good too though.

I've played so much of the original and City Folk. I have Wild World but honestly the game just doesn't translate well to handheld for me. I think I've played less than an hour of that one. The reason I haven't bothered with New Leaf.

Played original in high school. Some of my favorite gaming memories.

Didn't like DS/Wii version as much. Pained me to admit that 3DS version might be best one - thought nothing would replace GCN version. I was excited for pocket camp. It came out and I somehow instantly lost interest in even trying it. I read some public opinions about it and it's mostly negative, which made me want to try even less.

Played the shit out of the Gamecube one.

I've had New Leaf for a few months now, but I haven't touched it because I don't want to lose all my free time to such a game again. >->

I'm getting a lot of mixed opinions here and on the 3DS board. Some say Wild World is great others say it's the worst one. How will I know if I'll like it?

It's easily the worst one, no contest. If you have the other systems, go for them. If you only have DS, you still might have fun.

I disagree, I think Animal Crossing works better as a handheld game. Visiting other people's towns to hang out and trade items is easier that way, plus the StreetPass features in New Leaf are really useful. The original AC game on Gamecube was great though, and the whole "bring your memory card over to a friend's house" deal was awesome.

City Folk is the weakest one IMO, but even that one was pretty fun.

3DS > GC >>> DS > Wii

TBH each version has its own ups and downs, go with which one has what you want.

What it comes down to is do you want a handheld so you can play on the go, or a console version. City Folk is essentially a console port of Wild World with better graphics and a few additions. New Leaf would be the way to go if you want a handheld and most up to date game.
